And to get to this site, we had to take a long detour due to roadworks. The site itself is clean, well laid out, close to the Rhine and has a small playground. We had to park our motorhome in an asphalted area, the pitches on the meadow are probably... intended for caravans. The area is more for those seeking relaxation, possibly also for anglers, as it is very remote. Both the staff and the manager are polite and customer-friendly. And remember, motorhome drivers greet each other.Automaticky přeloženo.- Tim S.June 2023PozitivaProximity to the Rhine (Whaal), positioning of the pitches in the first row by the water, cleanliness of the sanitary facilities, quality of the cycle paths in the area, campsite familiar and manageable, very nice staffNegativaSanitary facilities in "lightweight construction style" and somewhat limited in number, no shopping facilities on sitePeace, nature and proximity to water above all else...Camping de grote altena is perfect for peace and quiet, nature, boat watching and cycling. The "lightweight" sanitary facilities are well-kept and clean and good by Dutch camping standards (but can't compete with modern, brick-built sanitary blocks on German campsites...but the quality and hygiene are... still perfectly ok). The number of toilets, showers and washing facilities is perhaps a little limited. On arrival, you are taken directly to the pitch you have booked and the caravan is positioned precisely by the campsite staff using an electric trolley if necessary. There is something special here: the pitches are equipped with awnings and the positioning of the caravan and motorhome is precisely specified and must be adhered to. At first glance unusual but in practice very advantageous...optimal view of the water is ensured, distances to the neighbors are ok (separating hedges are not necessary) everyone has their awning floor (is made of plastic fabric - and if you have a smaller tent like us, you can easily drive tent pegs through the awning floor - is also allowed) and there are no brown lawns from the tent of the predecessor. Lidl+Aldi+Albert Hein can be easily reached by bike. (Bring what you can from Germany...everything is more expensive here than here...) We were here in June and the river was inviting for a swim: amazingly clean and not cold! But you shouldn't go in above chest height...otherwise you end up in the fairway and later in Rotterdam... The shore offers a super sandy beach in places and was 10 meters away from the pitch :-) There was no traffic noise on the site at all...the inland waterway traffic is sometimes louder, but you're actually here to watch boats, so there's always something to watch :-) Pure nature in the surrounding area...wild horses on both sides of the shore, storks etc.

Frank B.September 2022Pozitiva-) The location directly on the Waal and on the dike cycle path -) Pitches directly on the water -) Proximity to Nijmegen and Arnhem -) Very friendly operatorsNegativa-) Distance to the nearest supermarketPerfect location for relaxing, sightseeing and watching ships :-)We spent a week here to see Nijmegen and Arnhem by bike and just to relax. To cut a long story short: the place is just great. When it's raining, you can watch ships, and when the weather is good, you can enjoy the (typically Dutch) fantastic cycle paths.
Most of the pitches are located directly on... the Waal, everything is quite spacious and always clean. Electricity, water, waste, ... all no problem. Only the food supply is limited to a bread roll service, for everything else you have to go by car - which is of course no problem.
The sanitary facilities are cleaned regularly and are in immaculate condition. Well, the operators won't win a design prize for this, but everything you need is there and it's really clean.
There is a small restaurant at the eastern end of the site. Here too with a direct view of the river, a small but excellent menu, friendly service and the option of take-away.
Another highlight: the owner offers a delivery service for dinner cooked by her according to recipes from her Indonesian homeland. If you order by 22:00 the evening before and give your pitch number, the food will be delivered directly to your pitch the next evening - we tried it one evening, it tastes fantastic and is simply a great idea and service.Automaticky přeloženo.- Anja B.May 2022PozitivaClean plumbingNegativaLots of noise from lawn mowers, hedge trimmers and side mowers. A mover is helpful.Simply great!We discovered the campsite by chance and were delighted with the great location directly on the Waal. We were lucky enough to get a pitch by the river and enjoyed the view of the river and the many passing boats every day. The owners are super nice and helpful. The sanitary facilities are housed in wagons... that are kept safe from flooding during the winter. The shower cubicles, including washbasins, are spacious and were always very clean. The site is also recommended for dog owners, as the dogs can run, swim and romp freely at the end of the site by the Waal. We booked a pitch on the water side. The pitch is large enough and paved, which is very pleasant. There are several benches on the water side from where you can watch the boat traffic. The sanitary building we used was in good condition. The... shower time is limited to 5 minutes, the shower water is sufficiently hot. The site in general is very well maintained. What was disturbing was a large-scale lawn mowing action that was carried out from 10-14 clock with several lawn mowers non-stop. We are of the opinion that this could be organized differently. On arrival we were given a very friendly welcome and informed about everything. The condition of the pitches, the sanitary facilities and everything else is simply superb. The site looks very well-kept and clean. The price (we paid €18 for row two) included a shower and toilet.... The shower runs on a timer and gives you 5 minutes. Normally that's enough. If you need more you have to wait a few minutes, then the timer is active again. I paid 10 euros per week for WLAN. It's okay but a shame, as it's sometimes already included in the price on other pitches: There is bread roll service on the pitch. Otherwise a restaurant (very good), but not part of the campsite. Shopping is possible 3 km away (Lidl) (easy way). There is also a supermarket and an ATM 4 km away (easy walk). Cycling tours are possible to Nijmegen and Arnhem. There are also other tours (ask at the information desk). Nijmegen has a great pedestrian zone, so you can store well. We would like to thank the campsite operators for the cleanliness and service. It was wonderful and we will be happy to stay here again when we return to the Netherlands. You are very kindly received and helped to put the caravan on the spot. Ideal is that the caravans are all facing the same direction and there is root cloth under the awning. Beautiful views of the Waal (the waterfront sites). Plumbing is perfectly clean, very well... maintained. TV via digitenne also works fine. No store but delicious fresh rolls in the morning that you have to order the day before. The only downside is that the small sanitary building has a very small shelter near the dishwashing area. We had bad weather during the May vacation and then you stand in the rain and wind, which is no fun! The site is located directly on the banks of the Waal, a tributary of the Rhine. The pitches are well maintained and arranged in such a way that you have a wonderful view of the water and never look directly at the caravan in front of you. The owners... are very friendly and accompany you to the pitch, which you can also view beforehand. Water, power and electricity are available at every pitch. Bread rolls for breakfast can be ordered the day before. The sanitary facilities are very clean. You don't need coins for hot water when washing up or showering. There are sun loungers and a parasol on the river beach. Although the camping area is small, it is equipped with a barbecue and picnic tables. There is also a hut nearby that campers can use free of charge to watch TV, play games or read. There is also a fridge there. Nijmwegen is easy to get to by bike and the surrounding area, like almost everywhere in Holland, is ideal for cycling. You can also take the bus to Nijmwegen or Arnhem, which is also not very far away. There are 2 supermarkets in the village, as well as a Chinese takeaway and a restaurant.
