There is also a charge for the showers, which have to be paid for with coins. The cleanliness of the women's toilets was... also rather limited. But it was OK for the men.
The senior manager at reception wasn't exactly bubbling over with cordiality either (to put it mildly).

We enjoyed the first cool day in the hotel's integrated sauna and hot... tub! We also had a sensational meal in the restaurant! The infrastructure of the campsite is very nice and uncomplicated and we really liked it. We are bothered by comments that are simply not realistic.
In the high season there is a lot going on everywhere,... you should be grateful if the operators make an effort to give everyone a place, who is too narrow or does not like the place can move on.
As for the statements "unfriendly senior manager", maybe ask how to call the forest yourself!

Only on grass, in the rain no chance to drive away on this sloping hillside, you sink into the dirt. Access on a very narrow mountain road. No chance to cross. You have to pay for the showers. The site manager is unfriendly and makes you wait a long time at reception. We needed an extension for our power cable because the power connection is so far away.Not suitable for caravans and motorhomesWe actually wanted to stay for 1 week with our caravan. The site is very uneven and steep. We had to drive up 2 wedges. When it rains you can't get off the pitch without four-wheel drive because you dig into the grass. We had the impression that we campers were just a burden for the site operator, who... runs the associated country inn. 3.5 min showers cost 1 franc. This is also not on the homepage. We would have registered but the site operator didn't care. You have to pay extra for everything. The place offers nothing except the beautiful view. ATTENTION: This comment only refers to the campsite, not the hotel/restaurant, which is run by the son and not the "old man".
We wanted to leave our caravan there for longer as we live nearby. The first... contact was "friendly", showed us everything, but pretty quickly we realized that we were only "tolerated" here. The campsite operator was quite aware this year that he would quickly fill up the campsite thanks to Corona, and he made that clear to us very quickly. Well, we also wanted to get out, that was the "last option" (unfortunately, never ever).
The space was "just" according to the operator. Just under 25 cm difference in height from the rear to the drawbar. Unfortunately, the space to the front was also 20 cm higher. This was to be a lot of "fun" for us. On arrival it already had a power cable, simply without a plug. After asking what was going on, his answer was: "That's not my problem, take care of it yourself!". After asking several times, he then looked at the problem and his electrician fixed it. As the pitch was so sloping, we couldn't put up our new air tent because, even if we drove on wedges, we couldn't get a slope and it would have collapsed every time it rained (or the tent wouldn't have found the ground at all on the side :) . Turning the caravan 180° would not have made the sloping pitch any better, but it would have provided the necessary slope. When asked about this problem, with several suggested solutions, we got the answer: "How dare you, you fucking ar****holes, you got the best pitch! I don't have time for this sh*t, I have to fry scrambled eggs now!" and slammed his reception window shut.
Unfortunately, it turns out we're not the only ones! Are frequented by restaurant guests and camping guests alike. - Senior manager very unfriendlyVery nice view, but very unfriendlyAfter almost 4 km uphill from Appenzell, we reached the Eischen and were rewarded with a wonderful view of Säntis and the hills of the Apenzellerland.
But if you want to check in here, you need time, nerves and sometimes even a thick skin.
But if you can overlook that and enjoy a crowded and quirky pitch, you're in good hands here.
