- Torben G.May 2018PositiveSuper nice pitches on the Rur. The site is relatively quiet.NegativThe sanitary area could be better and cleaner.Great pitches. Sanitary is okay. The pitches on the Rur are absolutely top class. The campsite is in a quiet location, with the occasional train passing by and the church tinkling away. The town of Abenden is very sleepy, so there's not much going on there. However, there are plenty of things to do from there. The sanitary facilities... are relatively new, but generally feel very cold. During the time we were there (8 nights) the sanitary facilities were not really cleaned. There is no toilet paper or soap in the sanitary facilities. Something clearly needs to be done here. The owner couple is a bit older and also a bit more relaxed/comfortable in all things. Although they do come across as friendly. Basically, the place is happy to stay for a few days. If you can overlook a few things. The pitch should be a bit cheaper for the facilities.Automatisk oversat.
- Quirinus W.September 2016PositiveBeautiful tent meadow by the water. Rail connection (station next to the site)NegativNo toilet paper in the loo (where is that still available in Germany in 2016?) Unkind sanitary facilities. Mole beeper for permanent campersOvernight stay in a tentThe tent meadow is right on the water (Rur) and is nice, but not very shady. You get a key for the sanitary area (5,-deposit), which you better not lose. Very inconvenient and probably because otherwise the "paddlers" go to the loo there. The sanitary area is very sparse. Only one hook in the shower... and no hook in the toilet is simply impractical. Saving money instead of having fun seems to be the motto. The somewhat quirky older couple who run the place are a bit stolid and cumbersome anyway.Automatisk oversat.
- katharina b.June 2016Positive- showers are free of charge - clean facility - directly on the river - easy to reach by train, car and bikeBeautiful campsiteThe campsite is super nice right on the water. Very well maintained, nice elderly couple, uncomplicated stay. Close to the train station. You can do lots of great hikes in the area. The place is also super cuteAutomatisk oversat.
- Lothar N.May 2013An oasis of peace, for all those who need nothing in a small village without shopping facilities (except a good bakery), ideal for hikers and bikers who like to accept a few hills. To Nideggen by bike 30 minutes back half (downhill)Automatisk oversat.
- Philipp P.September 2012The route to "Camping Friedenstal" (without the 'h'!) leads via Nideggen down to Abenden, a small village with just a few hundred inhabitants. Riding a bike to Nideggen or anywhere else is only for the hardy - at best, a hiking stick will come in handy here for the inexperienced, it's just too steep.... Luckily, there is a small, modern bakery and patisserie that offers fresh bread rolls and an abundance of delicious cakes every day. Newspapers are also available. The bakery is about 300 meters from the campsite on foot (cross the bridge and take the second turning to the left). The campsite itself is mostly occupied by permanent campers, who populate the area to the right of the access road and behind the centrally located sanitary building. To the left of the access road is a strip of meadow, perhaps 60 meters long, right next to the Rur, which babbles gently along (a wonderful backdrop). Only here are there tourist pitches for tents and campers. The sanitary block is still quite new and very clean. Hot water in the showers is included in the price and can be adjusted at will. Unfortunately, despite the high standard of hygiene, all the toilets are paperless and there is no soap at the washbasin. To wash up, the path leads you about 20 meters further into a dilapidated witch's cottage. It is locked - the rusty key dangles from a hook in the middle of the landscape on the camper meadow. There is something bizarre about it. Electricity is paid for according to consumption; overall, the mixed calculation per overnight stay is very reasonable. The Saurbier couple make a friendly effort to accommodate short-term campers. Unfortunately, this small site also suffers from long-established permanent campers (including their hordes of garden gnomes and lolling ceramic bathing beauties), whose own lives have obviously become so dull over the years that they have to focus primarily on the lives of others. A permanent camper, for example, asked us what we were "doing here"; after a shower in the morning, we were told that we shouldn't shower for so long, as it costs money and unnecessarily increases everyone's fees. Of course, the self-appointed court policeman on duty, who warns you to walk at walking pace on the premises in a commanding tone, is not to be missed. These are all excesses that unfortunately occur in some places of this kind, sometimes more, sometimes less pronounced. In any case, despite the commitment of the operators, people passing through are put off by the fact that their stay is spoiled - they are not likely to return. In view of the friendly owners and the beautifully situated, well-kept site, this is once again regrettable.Automatisk oversat.
- Thomas G.July 2012Friedensthal was the most beautiful campsite on our trip through the Eifel and along the Moselle this year. Very informal, new, great sanitary building, wonderful location right on the banks of the Rur and plenty of opportunities for all kinds of activities all around. It should be like this everywhere.Automatisk oversat.
