- Jürg B.May 2017PositiveIdeal for sightseeing, excursions in the surrounding area and a tour to Staffa.NegativOld, inadequate sanit. Facilities, price/performance ratio not right at £28/dayNO CAMPING PITCH BUT ONLY A NARROW PITCHArrived at the end of May, Friday 12.30 p.m. with car + 8 m caravan and double-axle trailer. Few guests at this time, many pitches free on the various levels. The owner does the check-in and charges £ 23/night according to the posted tariff plus £ 1 surcharge for extra-long caravan, no free choice of... pitch. Wanted to drive to the allocated pitch, then the owner came and demanded an additional £4/night, surcharge for double axle, i.e. £28/night for 2 pers. incl. electricity! He didn't want to know anything about the fact that there was no corresponding surcharge in the posted price list or homepage, that's it. It certainly wasn't a language problem, we speak very good English. Maybe it's because of our Swiss nationality, foreigners are easier to rip off... He led us to the pitch, we had to stand right at the edge, as there was another camper van coming in between and there had to be enough distance. The camper van actually arrived at 11.40 pm, just before midnight! Saturday we were on the road all day, back at the campsite around 9pm. The camper van that had arrived during the night had gone, but there were now 2 camper vans from a French group in between, it couldn't be any closer, contrary to the information on the homepage "We only cater for a max of 45 units ensuring there is an ample space between caravans or tents". There were still free pitches in the lower area the whole time. The site in a quiet, rural area makes a neat impression, various terraces, hardstanding pitches and meadow. The sanit. The sanitary facilities are already very old, rebuilt several times, corresponding traces are clearly visible, e.g. in the shower cubicle: 3 shower heads mounted, one in operation, 2 hanging loose, various old screw holes etc., more or less clean. For the ladies only 2 showers, 3 wash cubicles and 3 WCs, not enough with not even full space, i.e. queuing and waiting. Based on our experience, the price/performance ratio was therefore not right at all. Access to the campsite: Do not follow the navy, otherwise you will end up in a dead end, follow the instructions and route on the campsite's homepage. On the current road, after driving through a new residential area, a single track begins, approx. 2 km, not visible along the entire route, alternative route only sufficient for cars. To the center by car, there are parking possibilities, or on foot in about 30 minutes from the campsite. A city tour is worthwhile, beautiful town on the water, many stores, bank and restaurants. There are various possibilities for sightseeing and excursions, we recommend a day trip by ferry, bus and small boat to Staffa + Iona. Booking recommended with Staffa-Tours at the harbor.Automatisk oversat.
- Karin G.August 2014Very nice, cozy and quiet campsiteOne of 2 campsites in Oban. But because the people here are incredibly friendly, this site is definitely to be preferred.Automatisk oversat.
- Sandro 7.August 2013PositiveJust a 20-minute walk to the harbor. Everything the Atlantic has to offer is super fresh there.Hiking and eating musselsSmall, fine private course - i.e. you shouldn't pitch too late in the evening during the season. The dedicated staff usually find a solution, but not always. This site is one of two near the small town of Oban. The site is in a quiet location between some mountains at the end of a cul-de-sac. The other... site in Oban is a little more spectacularly situated on the steep coast of the Sound, but is likely to be well windswept. The outdoor facilities are very well maintained. The pitches for motorhomes and caravans are gravelled throughout. There are well-kept meadows for tents. When fully occupied (and this doesn't happen every day in the season, but almost every day), the sanitary facilities and especially the showers are not sufficient. Two showers per gender for an estimated 100-150 campers are not enough. Installation is typically British - good 70s style and already a bit worn out. Due to the limited space, cleanliness is somewhat variable. The children's playground is OK. We were there for a week and felt comfortable. But it wasn't really comfortable. At just under 30 pounds per night for Klappfix with family, it's not cheap, but everything is included (including showers). Conclusion: Super nice operators, good location, well maintained, sanitary facilities need to be renewed and enlarged.Automatisk oversat.
