Because once you've made the short crossing, you can already see what awaits you. The view into the green distance. And at the end is the MiO.
A small, fine site on a hilltop, where the wind usually blows from the... west/southwest. Around 20 non-parceled pitches, all with their own (watch out!) 10A socket, are laid out in a circle around a flower meadow that is home to insects. The pitches are very large and fairly level, the lawn is short and well-kept. Water is available in several places on the pitch, including a free-standing wash-up basin in the middle of the pitch and the usual washing-up areas on the outside wall of the main building.
What looks from the outside like an old barn that was forgotten to be torn down turns out to be a modern multifunctional building with a dining room, terrace and sanitary facilities when you enter. The latter is generously furnished, modernly tiled in three colors and always clean. Spacious means: yes, finally a shower cubicle where your clothes are guaranteed to stay dry, simply because they hang far enough away.
When you come out of the shower, you'll find the sign-up list for the bread roll service in the corridor; when you leave the building, you might hear a cow from the adjacent dairy farm, but due to the direction of the wind, you'll rarely be reminded by the smell that milk doesn't grow in a tetrapak.
Excursion tips for families include the "Sonnenland" leisure park, which is almost within walking distance, and the "Zeit-Werk-Stadt" in Frankenberg in bad weather. (For Dad: one of only three prototypes of the Barkas B1100 built can be found here).

You can buy seasonal vegetables directly from the garden, enjoy breakfast... with homemade jam in the Esswerkstatt and watch the children run around carefree.

This helps us to recognize and remedy the deficiencies. The sanitary facilities are checked regularly and cleaned/disinfected daily. Our campsite is very small and close to nature, only the pitches are mowed regularly; part of the camping area remains unmown. The garbage cans... are emptied by the regional garbage collection service. Sometimes they are not emptied because they are not properly separated. Then I have to sort the garbage by hand, which can lead to overflowing garbage cans for a short time. But with our 6 garbage cans, it usually works very well.Αυτόματη μετάφραση.

Apart from us, there was only one other caravan on the site. You have to follow the signs, as the satnav initially took us the wrong way because a bypass had been built that wasn't listed on our route. Thanks to helpful locals, however, we were... quickly put back on the right track. The campsite is located at the end of a small single-lane (tarred) dirt road that leads to a large cattle farm, which is in the immediate vicinity of the campsite. Here we could smell a few clouds of scent. However, as it was still relatively cool, this was not a problem. The question is what it's like in midsummer. There could be a stronger odor nuisance. You also have to know that the tractors start driving at 4am to supply the cows, usually with two trailers and at an astonishing speed on the small road. The site is small but nice. The pitches are not parceled out, if you go by the electricity columns the pitches are very large. However, the ground is uneven (arable land with grass), which I would have reservations about for tents, but not a problem for caravans or motorhomes. The terrain is slightly sloping, chocks are necessary. As the site is on a high plateau, it was very windy here. You can imagine how extreme this can be when you see that the Tiny House and the rental caravan are anchored to the ground with tensioning straps. Registration was quick and easy. The reception was very nice and friendly. We were also shown around the site. Electricity is included. The sanitary facilities are clean, modern, spacious and attractive. I cannot understand or confirm the pictures with the alleged mold stains. The ceiling could perhaps have been painted, here you look at a bare concrete ceiling, on which one or the other spider web hung. The outdoor rinsing pools are dirty due to the weather, but not yet in use in April. Showering costs nothing extra. Wifi is available and at €7.50 for 7 days is also cheap if you stay that long. As the site is very secluded and rural, it's also very nice here for the dogs. When we were there (early April), the water columns on the site were not yet in operation. Unfortunately, there was no proper water point in the indoor area where you could fill water canisters. The solution offered was to hold a hose to the tap at the washbasin in the washroom. The hose had to have a large diameter for the tap, but it didn't fit into the canister. Fortunately, we still had a clean watering can with us. There is still some catching up to do here. The wind is not a major problem, as it is in other places. It was a stormy winter and as a precaution we had secured the rental accommodation. Our concrete ceilings emphasize the character of the building = an old barn. Traces of the past... have been left visible. The water point is indeed a weak point, but this has never been a problem because there were very few guests at this time of year. The CP is surrounded by fields, meadows, a radio mast and an industrial estate. No shopping facilities within walking distance.... Bread rolls (Coppenrath & Wiese) are available from around 9 a.m. in the Esswerkstatt, where a surprise menu was also offered on Sunday evening and on Sunday from 7 p.m. with "warmed up" stuffed peppers and Indonesian rice dishes from Fridays. Overall, the dining room made an untidy and unkempt impression (uncleaned windows, cobwebs, stained chair upholstery, floor not swept). The sanitary facilities (3 showers and 3 toilets) were not cleaned during our stay from Sat to Mon, although 8 pitches were occupied. Dishwashing sinks are only available outside - not covered - and were unusable as they were "littered" with plants/flower debris etc. For children there is some play equipment and a playhouse with a broken window pane. A small washing machine can be used for 4 euros per wash. We are a mini campsite with mini staffing. Sometimes things go wrong. As a rule, the sanitary facilities are cleaned daily. I can no longer understand what went wrong back then; my apologies. Fortunately, it doesn't happen often.
The dishwashing... sink is now covered and the playhouse has been replaced by a trampoline. Fresh food is always served in the dining workshop. Unfortunately, I can no longer ask what exactly went wrong here either - perhaps the chef's sense of humor was misunderstood. At the end of the cul-de-sac in a very quiet location. You can see the buildings of the supposed chicken farm on one side, but they look deserted. We didn't see, hear or smell anything there. The pitches are... very large and only divided by the electricity connections. The ground is densely overgrown with grass (lawn?) and almost flat. On 2 sides of the site you can see meadows and fields and the edge of a forest. The main building looks like an old barn, but the main building was built into it. The restaurant "Esswerkstatt", the kitchen and the sanitary facilities are fairly new. The showers are very large, with an anteroom and some of the washbasins are very clean and brand new. In the low season, the menu is very small and there is no store. So to be on the safe side, you should bring your own food. The sheltered terrace is a great place to enjoy the sunset. Birgit and Stan greet you personally and in a very friendly manner and take the time for a quick chat. Bread roll service. Showers are included. Our first irritation was caused by the location between a factory farm and an industrial area. The surrounding area is little more than cornfields, meadows and a village in the shadow of a new highway bridge. The bakery will soon have cars... literally driving over its roof. The combination of food workshop and campsite impressed us on the first day. But we were the only guests there. So we were looking forward to Indonese cuisine the next evening. But then the Esswerkstatt filled up with people from the surrounding area who probably thought it was their personal living room. As campers, we felt rather out of place there and preferred to fire up the barbecue. Too bad, the MiO concept doesn't work in this environment. Cooking for the village on the side doesn't work. I recommend that the operators decide whether they want to be a village restaurant or an innovative campsite. Unfortunately, we cannot change the location, which you have outlined very roughly. The small industrial area is at least 1 km away, separated from the campsite by a large hedge, path and field. Also the new bypass road of the village... (long fought and actually not nice) is at least 1km away from the campsite and as such not even perceptible if you are not pointed to it.
We are sorry that you found the contact with the people in the area unpleasant. We are not a village restaurant, as we have no menu, no regular opening hours and only cater by appointment. It is part of our concept that our camping guests can come into contact with people from the surrounding area.
