I agree with the previous comment. A few additions: Very small sanitary facilities with too few showers and toilets. Pitches soaked after heavy rain, but still passable. (Few) hardstands without electricity. Free WLAN, but only at the reception/lounge. Supermarket at the other end of Stromness and therefore... far away. Stromness itself is a picturesque little town with lovely little stores, a nice pub (The Ferry Inn) with a restaurant and lots of maritime flair. The site is definitely recommended due to its great location. As a starting point for exploring Mainland and the neighboring islands, the site in Kirkwall seems more suitable overall, as it has a much better infrastructure but is not nearly as attractively situated.

The campsite can be seen right on the headland when you sail into Stromness on the Northlinkferry. It doesn't look very inviting at first glance: A flat little meadow next to a few rusty arbors and a golf course. However, if you want to camp right by the sea, you won't find a better spot on Orkney. If... you walk a little way along the sea, you can watch seals at low tide. Stromness is just a few minutes' walk away and we recommend the Hamnavoe Restaurant (a little expensive, so be sure to book). The location is ideal for visiting the historic sights of Mainland or the bird colonies of Birsay or Marwick. There is also a boat from Stromness to Hoy. The campsite itself offers a lovely view of Stromness and the incoming ferries. The sanitary facilities are very basic and small, but clean. If you love your car, you should camp on the large meadow: we camped on one of the tent areas by the golf course and now have a golf ball-sized dent in our car.
