"Close to the beach and open to all: Camping de la Plage - "Camping de la Plage" is the cheaper alternative to "Marina Landes" and could convince with an unbeatable price of about 22 euros per night in high season (1 motorhome, 2 people, 1 dog) to 53 € (Marina Landes). The campsite is located in a town that is known as a surfer's paradise. Camping de la Plage therefore attracts countless groups of young people who pursue their sport in surf schools. Our fears that the noise level would be considerably higher due to the young people, who make up around 80% of the crowd, were not immediately confirmed. On the one hand, security ensures strict silence on the site from 23:30, and on the other hand, the youth area and camper area are a long way apart, so the most you're likely to bump into each other is when getting croissants in the morning. But it certainly plays a role who moves into the pazelle next to you. In the second week, a family with a cranky child and a younger French couple who seemed to be big hip hop fans arrived. This meant that the peace and quiet was lost a little, but you have to expect that. On every pitch. The campsite has a supermarket that is stocked with everything you need. From fruit and vegetables to a range of sausages and cheese, as well as drinks (water, juice, milk, alcohol), but also non-food (washing-up liquid, sponges, soap, toiletries, postcards, magazines/newspapers - including German ones), everything is available. The long opening hours (07:30 - 22:00) also help the convenience of not having to drive into town (approx. 800 meters) for every wish. The local supermarket closes at 19:30. The sanitary facilities are okay for the number of pitches. There are seven buildings, each with 10 toilets for men and women, as well as showers, washing-up areas for dishes and laundry rooms for clothes. Especially in the evening, when everyone comes in from the beach, the (warm) water gets tight. Cleaning is done twice a day, you have to bring your own toilet paper (as on most campsites). There is a soap dispenser at the washbasin (there is one, but it is often empty). By the way, showers are included, washing with the 13 KG washing drums costs €5, use of the dryer €3. There is an entertainment program for families with children and teenagers. This includes disco evenings, a magic show, aerobics courses, karaoke evenings, etc. This all takes place behind the reception building in a separate building, where there is also a snack bar (pizza, burgers, grilled chicken, ice cream, coffee, drinks). The prices there are moderate. The pitches for motorhomes are all enclosed by hedges, which keep the wind out to some extent and provide a little privacy. Furthermore, each pitch is equipped with a power connection (three-pin plugs!), but without a water connection. If you haven't filled up the water tank with drinking water at a sanitary building beforehand, you have to carry watering cans. The campsite seems to pay more attention to environmental protection, so there are garbage cans and large garbage tanks in many places. For dog owners, there are poop bag dispensers at the entrance to the campsite. They are often empty, but the will counts. Dogs are generally welcome. We let our dog run around off the lead a lot, which was not objected to by security. However, she is not impulsive and always stays close to us. You have to find a corner on the beach first. Dogs are only allowed there before 11 a.m. and after 7 p.m., which detracts somewhat from the enjoyment of the vacation. We simply drove one and a half kilometers north in the forest and chose the third beach access behind the village beach. It's hardly busy there and you can let your dog run around without hesitation, but we didn't even try it because of the ban. The campsite advertises paid WLAN at the pitches. This is correct in principle. Unfortunately, what is not mentioned is the fact that you need a credit card to pay. The campsite has nothing to do with the WiFi provider and therefore cannot offer an alternative payment method. You activate the WiFi at the campsite and are automatically connected to the provider hotspot (Wifipass), which guides you through the payment process. This only offers credit cards. This was very annoying for us as we didn't have a credit card and therefore had to do without internet. The campsite itself offers free Wi-Fi around the reception, so there was always a considerable number of people surfing the net. Not a convenient solution for working, however. The relatively extensive "sports program" offered by the campsite is worth mentioning. A climbing wall that might also interest experienced boulderers (even if it's just cross-country routes), basketball and volleyball courts, table tennis tables and archery. In bad weather, there is a small games hall. As there is a strict fire ban due to the proximity to the bone-dry pine forests, barbecues are not permitted on site and are only allowed in the designated BBQ areas. If you take everything with you, this is also possible. Benches and tables are available. Also on offer at the site and interesting for tent campers: cool boxes and safes for hire (€3.50/day). If you had to leave your bikes at home, you can hire them here. Last but not least, because it is often mentioned: the paper factory. According to an article on welt.de, it can ruin your vacation with its smells. We can't confirm this and assume that the writer of this piece must have lived very close to the factory. We heard the smell a few times, but only once as intrusive as described in the article. The air must have stagnated at three o'clock at night, allowing the stench to linger a little in Mimizan Plage. However, this should not be a reason to avoid Mimizan Plage. Of course, we can't judge what it's like to live in a vacation home right next to the factory.
