"Camping on the farm - We were with 2 adults, 2 children (6 & 8 years), and a camper with awning from 09.08. to 22.08.2014 on the campsite "Tussen Wad en Strand". We paid €32.00 for the pitch including electricity, showers and WiFi. Anyone who knows the typical small Dutch campsites knows what to expect. The farm camp has 15 parceled out pitches and a larger meadow with electricity but no water points. The site has three permanently erected yurts, two small wooden houses and a safari tent for hire. As it is located on an island, it is probably regularly visited by tent campers, who find a well-equipped kitchen in addition to the bad-weather room. The site is run very pragmatically by the owners; if you have any queries, you can ring a bell or contact them by cell phone. There are lots of animals on the site, including two pigs, lots of chickens and the loyal farm dog Zepp, and the rabbits are particularly popular with the children. The trampoline and an impressive fleet of Kettcars are great places for children to play. There is also a sandpit on site. The large buoy on the pond was quickly discovered as a climbing frame. The sanitary facilities are not exceptional, but they are clean. Two toilets and two showers next to three washbasins can lead to waiting times at peak times. The washing machine, tumble dryer, selection of ice creams and home-made minced meat are charged on a trust basis by depositing the corresponding amounts of money in small money boxes. As the name suggests, the site is located near the village of Ballum between the Wadden Sea and the beach, but the walk to the beach is quite long and not very comfortable without a bike. Once a week, the campsite offers its guests a trip to the eastern tip of the island at a reduced price. This involves riding along the beach in a beach jutter. In addition to lots of scenery, curious seagulls and the play of the waves, we even spotted two seals. The island itself is manageable and yet varied due to the 4 villages. In addition to a visit to the lighthouse and an excursion to the seal banks, we were even able to watch a demonstration by the Ameland horse rescue boat. Other must-visits include the NatuurCentrum and the Vleyen playground. Just behind the dyke at the campsite is the Ameland Lifeboat Museum, where you can marvel at the old lifeboats and the modern new boat. The crossing with the caravan was well organized and easy to master. If you bring your own bikes or hire them on site, you can leave the caravan behind for the rest of your vacation.
