Betzenstein itself is a beautiful Franconian village and the restaurants there are excellent.
A small supermarket with a bakery provides everything you need.
Hiking, cycling and of course climbing are the order of the... day in Franconian Switzerland.
The Betzensstein leisure pool and the adjoining climbing garden are also very inviting.
A jewel and well worth another visit... a ? Old interior of sanitary building, but new owner (from season 2024) says it will be renovated after the season.
Indicated on Google that it closes relatively early in the evening, but just call there and the friendly owner who lives on site may be there anyway, or he can give directions on how to drive in and check in/settle up the next morning.

After a change of ownership, our subjective impression is that the general condition is deteriorating. Starting with the lack of bread roll service, which could have been offered during our stay with the current occupancy... of the site without much effort with baked bread rolls in a household oven, to outdated sanitary facilities in need of modernization, lack of willingness to improve the Wi-Fi offer to the limited food offer of the restaurant on a few pizzas (which were delicious) and burgers. The lack of toilet paper is generally not a bad thing; however, it seems symptomatic that the site operator does not point this out when you check in.
Of course, the still very reasonable pitch price must be taken into account. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed on the day we arrived. There is no toilet paper or soap to wash your hands in the toilets. No soap is an absolute no-go and unhygienic. The showers are very outdated and... cost extra. Spider webs hang from the ceiling in the dishwashing room. Signs everywhere. The cobwebs in the dishwashing room were actually removed. It's now hanging from the extractor and stands in the corner. It seems as if there is a lack of drive and the right understanding to run a business successfully. Completely ok as a transit point. No problem for the groundsman, who helped us immediately. The ladder we needed to seal the hatch was not only made available to us, but was even brought to our... pitch!
In addition, contact with all the staff was always friendly and accommodating, whether on the pitch, at reception or in the restaurant.
I am surprised by some of the negative comments I read here. Some people seem to forget in their reviews that they have chosen a very cheap and basic pitch. If you rent at a reasonable price, you shouldn't expect luxury. The pitch offers everything you can expect for its price range, including electricity and water, and in good quality!
Of course, it would be nice if there was toilet paper (what a hot topic). If you had informed yourself beforehand, you would know that you have to bring your own paper. In my opinion, anyone who criticizes the lack of toilet paper only shows that they haven't informed themselves, but it can't really be a point of criticism.
I'm sure it would be easy for the campsite to provide toilet paper in large quantities. Golden taps and heated toilet seats would also be possible - BUT NEVER AT THE LOW RATES!
If you want a cheap vacation, you should be reasonable with your demands and criticism.

Pitch OK for this. The sanitary facilities are ancient and really unpleasant - you'd rather drive on without showering. We wanted to eat something in the restaurant in the evening. Disaster - a permanent... camper had to assist in the service so that something went ahead at all. Nevertheless, we waited over an hour for the dishes. We are a campsite and not a 5 star hotel, it is amazing that there are always people like you who believe that everything revolves around them.
It would be wonderful if there was a site where you could rate camping guests, that's all I want to say.

There was never any great luxury on the site, but no real camper needs that. But what everyone wants are clean and tidy sanitary and service facilities. And there has been a massive drop in quality with the new operator (2 years ago). We... can fully confirm what Mr. Nils H. describes. For the site operator to insult Mr. H. for this shows a completely wrong view of his work. This is also evidenced by the messages he posted all over the site, some of which were insulting to the campers. When we were there, there were lots of families with children (including younger ones), which was very nice. Perhaps something could be invested in the playground. As this is the case in Betzenstein, we called them and were greeted very warmly on the phone and told that we were welcome. That was already a big plus. When we arrived at the site, we received an extremely... friendly welcome at reception and were advised to use the tent meadow, as we didn't need electricity and the fire bowl would be more acceptable there than on the permanent pitches. The pitch was slightly sloping, so wedges were necessary. The atmosphere on the tent meadow was very pleasant. There is a toilet trailer there, which looks quite simple from the outside, but is fully functional and top clean on the inside. The entire site is also top clean, as are the actual sanitary facilities in the main building. The only point of criticism is the coin-operated shower. In my opinion, this is no longer up to date, but the site operator surely has his reasons for this? The village of Betzenstein is lovely. Time has stood still here. Certainly not a place for "halligalli tourism", but for switching off and relaxing. You feel at home here. Unfortunately, the restaurant at the campsite no longer exists as there is no longer an operator. What a pity! Just under a kilometer away is a pub with good Franconian cuisine. All in all, a place for hiking, but also for rest and relaxation. The friendliness and cleanliness are great. Highly recommended for gentle tourism! The price is typically Franconian, namely cheap, so absolutely worth the price!Automatikusan lefordítva.
