Casseroles

Casseroles aren’t just simple to prepare at home: In the Omnia hob top oven, you can throw together whatever you like, cover it in a sauce, and top it all with cheese. One example is this pasta casserole that can be tailored to your personal preferences and can include other vegetables such as zucchini, leek, broccoli, or whatever else you like!

Bread

When you’ve been abroad for a while, do you miss tasty, whole grain bread, too? With the Omnia oven, you can make your favourite bread yourself! The best way to do this is to use a pre-made bread mix — not because bread dough is particularly hard to make, but because whole-grain bread requires quite a lot of ingredients that you should probably leave at home in order to save on space. Of course, you can make your own bread mix by weighing out everything at home and putting the dry ingredients together in a bag or in a sealed container. But we’ve also found a great recipe for spontaneous bakers that uses ingredients that are easy to find when you’re abroad, and it’s perfect for whipping up a delicious dinner:

Stuffed Cheesy Bread

Time: About 2.5 hours total (Preparation approx. 15 minutes; Proofing time approx. 75 minutes; Baking time approx. 60 minutes)

Ingredients:

  • 500 g flour
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 300 ml lukewarm water
  • 1 package yeast
  • 2 leeks
  • 200 g diced bacon or ham
  • Some butter
  • 200 g shredded cheese (like gouda or emmental cheese)
  • 1 egg
  • Pepper

Directions:

  • Add flour and salt to a bowl and make an indentation in the middle. Crumble up the yeast and pour in some of the water. Stir lightly and let it sit in a warm place for about 15 minutes.
  • Add the rest of the water and knead into a smooth dough (ideally with dough hooks on a hand mixer). Then let the dough rise for about 1 hour.
  • Wash the leeks and cut them into rings. Crisp up the bacon in a pan, then add the butter and leek rings and let it all stew together for about 3 minutes.
  • Knead the dough again and roll out into a rectangular shape on a floured surface.
  • Whisk egg with a fork and coat the dough with it. Spread out about 150 g of cheese and the mixture of leek and bacon along the long edge of the dough and season with pepper to taste.
  • Starting with the long, filled side, roll the dough up and form it all into a ring shape. Place it in the floured baking tin and firmly press the ends together. Coat it with the rest of the egg and sprinkle with cheese.
  • Bake for about 30 minutes over low heat.

Cake

You can use basically every pound cake recipe for the Omnia oven. Bake it over low heat and regularly look at the cake, because baking times can vary. It's done when the top is slightly brown and when it begins to pull away from the edges. You should also probably do the toothpick test: Take a toothpick or a thin wooden skewer, insert it into the middle of the cake and remove it slowly. If it comes out clean, the cake is ready.
