Totally overcrowded with diving tourists who are considerate of other guests, not divers. There is no control to keep order and partying divers who are loud on your east site until 2 o'clock at night.
The infrastructure of the site is very run down. Although the pitches... are separated, the ground is totally unkempt. Thick stones are not good for an awning carpet. The sanitary building by the lake has never been cleaned in the "outdoor area", the plants growing through the wood are happy. There are only a few water points on the site. Camping toilet must be made with the motorhome disposal area, very nice outdoors in the rain.

The cleanliness in the toilets and showers is subterranean. The cleaning times are more than modest compared... to other campsites, as the busiest time is between 8-10 am. While the prices are constantly increasing, the campsite is far from renewing or modernizing the washrooms.
The beach area is actually beautiful - great views and plenty of shade. However, nothing has been done here for years and there seems to have been no thought given to filling in some sand so that you are not sitting on bare stone. Children now also have few opportunities to play by the water, as the beach area has become a parking lot for stand-up poodles and inflatable boats. Not to mention the danger when everyone approaches the beach area in an uncoordinated manner. Here, too, there should be a separate area and clear rules - as well as controls and warnings. This also applies to the dogs on the beach that leave their dog poo next to the bathers.
Last but not least, it remains for us to mention the booking system (everyone can read about the sharp rise in prices in recent years for themselves) as an absolute shortcoming. Even in the low season, you have to book three nights. Great if you want to stay from Friday to Sunday and have to book Thursday or Monday as well. Here, too, we have already experienced that the pitch is then occupied twice if the guests who have booked until Monday already leave on Sunday, then you can easily occupy the pitch again. That's not possible. And be careful, dear potential vacationers! If you do find that something has gone wrong with your booking, don't think you'll be able to reach anyone by phone. This campsite on Lake Kulkwitz was intended as a 3-day stopover after a vacation in Italy.
As soon as we arrived, we were overwhelmed by a flood of signs. There were at least 4 signs pointing to a mask and others that I can't even remember now.
Next... thing I know, an angry janitor storms in who didn't want to do some work. I think it's clear from the pictures that he's neglected several jobs recently.
The next annoyance was not long in coming.
The good lady at reception showed us the wrong way to our pitch. We had to turn into a road that you definitely can't turn into with a trailer without hijacking a lamppost.
Luckily we have a mover and were able to save the situation.
I like staff who know their stuff!!!
When we finally arrived at the site, we were surprised by a desolate, unkempt, dusty desert. This site had not yet been maintained this year.
Little did we know that this upkeep would accompany us throughout the entire campsite.
Untrimmed hedges, knee-high weeds on the paths and lawns, etc.
Well, a visit to the lake and a meal at the snack bar would certainly soften the initial shock.
If you then stand in the lake and take a look back at the bathing area, a concrete edge immediately catches your eye. This is approx. 15 cm thick and stretches over a length of almost 10 meters and peeks out of the sand. (for whatever reason it is there)

When we arrived, we had to spend some time at the registration desk, which was only manned by one person. I was told that it wasn't possible to stay for one night, but she didn't give me... a reason why. I then paid for two nights as it was too late to continue my journey. This has never happened to me on a campsite before, so we only stayed one night.
We had to find a pitch ourselves, which wasn't easy either. I was told at registration that the washroom with the showers would be locked at 9pm, allegedly because it had been destroyed!

We ended up at the campsite on Lake Kulkwitz. A phone call in advance didn't help - no reservation possible, so we tried it on the off-chance. When we arrived, we first had to queue at reception, which is located outside... the campsite. We were only allowed to enter reception once another customer had left and an employee was free. This also applied to the children who wanted to buy an ice cream there. So we had to queue ... Finally it was our turn and the very resolute lady first collected my passport. She then sent us to the site and told us to look for a pitch in one of the two free areas and then come back ... No sooner said than done ... one area was full, in the other we found a small corner for our little caravan. As each guest is allowed to find their own pitch there, some campers unfortunately occupied two or more pitches with one caravan and so the pitch was full - but not full. Back at reception, we told them that we would like to stand "about there behind the hedge" (with a finger "about there" on the site plan). Accepted, we had to pay for the two nights in advance. We were given a key for the entrance gate and a chip for the showers and the entrance barrier. A brief explanation of the chip ("I'll charge you another 5 euros"), then we drove to the pitch ... We had to push the caravan in because everything was too narrow to push it in backwards with the car. The helpful neighbors watched us eat dinner with interest ... hmmm ... We still had to do some shopping, so we queued up again at reception and asked for a supermarket ... the site didn't have one, but there was a Lidl and a Netto not far away. Well, we went there by bike because it was quite a way away (1000 m approx.). In the evening, we tried the "restaurant" on site ... They served chips, schnitzel, cordon bleu and Asian-style fried noodles. It was quite good, reasonably priced, but rather standard snack food. Nothing for a romantic wedding day, which we postponed to another day ... We then went swimming - the water lives up to its reputation - crystal clear and clean. The sanitary facilities are also clean. Toilet paper available, but no disinfectant. There are enough showers, but only one washing area with a washbasin that can be locked. So my first impression of the ladies' sanitary facilities was of a 60-70-year-old woman standing stark naked at the general washbasin and washing herself everywhere without any shyness ... The second impression for me was when I stood stark naked in the shower and realized that nothing, absolutely nothing, was loaded onto the shower chip and so I had to get dressed again, walk out of the grounds to reception, only to discover that it only opens at 08.30 am ... (only to go there again at 8.30 am and stand in line in front of the door again). The place in general makes an unkempt impression, the weeds grow everywhere, sometimes meters high, the hedges are not cut. What a pity. It was 10 km by bike to the zoo - the route across the city is almost entirely on cycle paths - which was great. The zoo alone is worth a visit to Leipzig. Conclusion: The campsite is beautifully situated, the lake is clear and clean, the sanitary facilities are okay, but once again there are no plugs in the flushing area. Our pitch was tiny. The reception staff are resolute and not really friendly (waiting in the queue makes you feel a bit like you used to in Leipzig) ... and the campsite has no order or system when it comes to allocating pitches, because everyone can stand wherever they like ... We wouldn't go to this campsite again. We always rent a Swedish house and therefore can't really judge the camping situation. The public sanitary facilities are cleaned regularly - but every guest has an influence on the general cleanliness themselves..... We have never... found the entire staff to be unfriendly (the same applies here: "as the saying goes, .......) The houses are super clean, in good condition and functionally furnished. There have been some improvements over the years. If we could make a wish, the icing on the cake for us would be comfortable new furniture, including a large parasol. Sightseeing in Leipzig and the surrounding area is super easy from here - whether by car, public transport or bike. Leipzig has a lot to offer. From the site there are excellent opportunities for diving, swimming, paddling and canoeing.... The water is crystal clear. We don't notice the "alleged prison character" in a negative way at all. It gives a better feeling of security. It's just a question of how you organize yourself (gate key). Regarding the general peace and quiet on the site, we can say that the permanent campers are quiet, but some younger guests don't take the so-called "night's rest from 10 pm" very seriously.
