- Andrea K.May 2023Positive tingThe location, very friendly team, great cleaning staff, very friendly welcome even as an ACSI Card camperNegative tingNO DISADVANTAGESVery nice place on the AtlanticA very beautifully located campsite, right on the Atlantic! The whole team is very friendly, the cleaning staff clean really, really well, all the sanitary facilities were tip-top!!!!
We spent a total of 6 weeks in France and, as with all the other campsites, we were able to camp with the ACSI Card and... still choose our pitches, no matter how big and where on the campsite, which was really luxury for little money! Merci France!!!
There are great cycle paths on the island, many small beautiful villages, colorful markets, in short it was perfect for us!!!
Beautiful sunsets!!!Automatisk oversatt. - Martin H.May 2022Positive tingVery friendly operators, beautiful pitches, well-kept sanitary facilities, great location for cycling!Negative tingNothing found...Beautiful, natural CP - directly behind the dunesThe long drive is worth it: well-kept CP, friendly operators, communication also possible in English. Spacious pitches, natural design. Sanitary facilities are cleaned regularly, bread rolls on sale from 8.00 am. Charging facilities for electric cars!
La Rochelle is worth a visit and beforehand a nice bike tour on the island. Separate cycle paths. Even as a CampingCard customer, no restrictions on the choice of pitch!Automatisk oversatt. - Barbara W.August 2019Positive tingLocation, clean sanitary facilities, good restaurant nearby.Negative tingThe beach at the campsite is only a bathing beach to a limited extent.A dream place in a dream location! We were there at the end of August 2019. 2 adults + dog in a motorhome. The campsite impresses with its location at the end of the island. The atmosphere on the site is quiet and relaxed, the sanitary facilities are always tiptop, the store on the site offers minimal supplies, the pastry service works.... There is a bistro on the campsite and several restaurants within walking distance, about 10 minutes from the lighthouse. We also rented the electric car on site for half a day to explore the island in comfort (a full day would have been better...) We'll be back!Automatisk oversatt.

- Michael M.May 2016In the shadow of the lighthouseThe elongated site lies behind a dune, so there are no pitches with a direct sea view. It is divided into plots of different sizes. Shade is only provided by a few small trees; overall the site is sunny. The very well-kept sanitary facilities without gender segregation with large shower cubicles are... divided into three small houses in the typical local architectural style. Coin-operated washing machines are available at the site entrance. Chemical toilets can only be emptied at the disposal station for motorhomes. The level ground is gravelly with a thin layer of sand/soil, so sturdy tent pegs are recommended. The access roads are asphalted. A rather weak WIFI is only available free of charge for guests in the vicinity of the reception and the playground. There is a small playground, boules court, mini golf course and beach volleyball court, but no swimming pool. Barbecuing is possible in several places at fixed barbecue stations. As is usual on French campsites, there are mobile homes or cabins and also permanently erected tents for rent. Swimming is possible on the pebbly, unguarded beach, which is directly accessible from the campsite. As the Atlantic meets the land here practically unchecked in conjunction with the strong tides, you should be careful! Apart from a small snack bar and the option of ordering bread, there are no other facilities on site. Smaller purchases can be made in a small Epicerie near the campsite (Rue de la Plage) and otherwise only a little further away in the villages. The stores at the nearby Phare des Baleines are typical tourist traps. Two large shopping centers are located in the east of St.-Martin-de-Ré. Overall, the site is quiet out of season; in season it is likely to be packed due to its convenient location. I found the operators to be friendly and courteous. Two small details: the entry and exit barriers are controlled by an automatic license plate recognition system (the license plate is entered into the system when you register) and there is the option of renting a small electric car at the site, which allows you to drive over the bridge to and from the mainland toll-free and park for free in some places in la Rochelle.Automatisk oversatt.
- Uli und Rick M.August 2014Positive tingUnique location on "Omaha Beach" Very nice and helpful operators, well-kept sanitary facilities, very clean!Negative tingtoo far away for a weekend tripMost beautiful campsite in France that I have seen so farCamping directly on the dunes of the Atlantic, very clean and well-kept sanitary facilities, ideal for dogs - kilometers of beaches for walking and collecting shells, a dream compared to camping in the south of France.Automatisk oversatt.
- Anna S.June 2014Positive tingGood location behind a protective dune directly on the Atlantic Ocean near an old lighthouse. Good restaurants there.Negative tingWashing cubicles: sockets not accessible for small people.Ideal for bike ridesCamping Les Baleines is located on the westernmost tip of the island, not far from the 57-meter-high Phare des Baleines lighthouse (lighthouse of the whales). The campsite is close to nature on grassy terrain with hedges and individual trees, which provide welcome shade in midsummer. The sea (the Atlantic)... is just a few steps away through a small gate in the fence. You can hear the sound of the surf and watch fantastic sunsets from the dune in the evening. The site is protected from storms from the sea by a high dune, which is also a plus point. The sanitary facilities have recently been renovated. We always found them clean, there was always enough toilet paper in the toilets and the shower cubicles were average for France. No shower tokens required, water runs for half a minute, then you have to press the button again. There are two sanitary blocks for the site, when we were there for a week over Whitsun in June, only one sanitary block was open, this will certainly change in July-August. The site will also be fully booked then, so it is advisable to make a reservation during these months. What I didn't like about the sanitary block were the wash cubicles with washbasins and mirrors. Although there were sockets for a hairdryer, they were probably designed for women over 1.85m tall. I had no chance of even reaching the socket with my fingertips. The toilet section is shared by men and women - with three open urinals next to the entrance door, without a wall of shame. Very strange. If you wash your hands in the corridor, you can watch men urinating in the mirror, so to speak. I found that kind of embarrassing. There is a playground for children, a launderette and a TV room. You can play boules there and there is also a simple mini-golf course. If you didn't bring a bike, you can rent bikes there and there are endless bike paths all over the island, it's very interesting to ride through the nature reserves without having to dodge cars all the time. About 5-7 minutes' walk away is the historic lighthouse with several restaurants, cafés and souvenir stores. Especially on nice days, you can sit outside for a long time in the evening, eat well and enjoy the evening with a rosé. At night, the light from the lighthouse shines romantically over the campsite. Unfortunately, there is no pool, but we didn't really miss it. There is also no store or campsite restaurant, as there is probably too much competition at the Phare. There are supply and disposal facilities for motorhomes. We have been there several years with our motorhome and always stayed for about a week. It was a very nice vacation there every year.Automatisk oversatt.
- Markus S.August 2013Really a great place. Located at the very tip of the island. It's right next to the lighthouse, which you can easily reach on foot and is very beautiful. We were there with our not-so-small motorhome and had no problems finding a parking space. It's a three-minute walk to the beach, which is still quite... wide and beautiful. In the evening you can sit in front of the motorhome and enjoy the light from the lighthouse. There are new and old sanitary facilities. But both are always clean. You can explore the whole island by bike. There are many small side roads with few cars on them. There is a nice playground on the site itself for children up to around 6/7 years old. No entertainment whatsoever, which makes the campsite really tranquil. I will definitely go back again.Automatisk oversatt.
- Bernd K.July 2013Can easily be booked by the day, even in high season. Situated on the outermost "edge", you can experience romantic sunsets and relax on the slightly pebbly beach. High and low tides are pronounced on the Atlantic, and during our stay it was time for an afternoon swim. Nice reception, bakery service and a nice pitch in the first row rounded off our stay at the lighthouse. There was only a small queue at the showers in the evening...Automatisk oversatt.
