The inn "Zum Kirchenschmied" is also expected to close this year.Very well managed and equipped campsite directly on the AltmühlCentrally located in the Altmühltal valley, the manageable campsite offers plenty of variety for walkers, cyclists and boat hikers. The network of cycling and hiking trails is very well developed and starts almost directly at the campsite. There is a boat landing stage at the campsite and in the village....
The power supply is a solid 16 amps and the connection to the WLAN was uncomplicated and reliable. The power connection and water point were in the immediate vicinity of our pitch. The local bakery was also open on Sundays and public holidays and the bread rolls were very tasty. The barbecue area with two fire pits is generously sized and offered plenty of seating, some of which was covered. The fact that some guests blocked the tables and benches the whole time, in German towel reservation manner, is less nice. There was a large trampoline and a small playground for the children. The campsite was always quiet and relaxed.
Check-in was quick and cordial. The operator was always very friendly and offered freshly grilled fish on Saturday.
There is a sanitary building with toilets, showers and washbasins. The sanitary facilities are modern, bright and friendly and were always at a pleasant temperature. Although there were only 5 showers, there were no waiting times.
However, the water in the showers drained very slowly and the floor in the shower room did not slope sufficiently towards the floor drain, so that the entire floor was flooded. Unfortunately, there were also no shelves (e.g. a low bench under the washbasins) where you could leave your clothes to dry. After the main shower times there was unfortunately no hot water, only lukewarm.
The whole campsite makes a very clean, well-kept and tidy impression and is very well equipped.
We stayed three nights in our mini camper in the 2nd row of tents and really enjoyed our stay. From here you can make beautiful excursions into the surrounding area. It is possible to launch your own boat from the campsite.
The individual pitches are easy to reach by caravan and are generously sized.
It is also possible to stay overnight in... barrels.
The sanitary facilities have been renovated and are very clean.
However, they are probably a little too small when the site is full.
We were on the site as part of the Fendt Meeting 2022.
Dinner was served twice by the campsite owner. A very good tasty menu was offered. The staff are very friendly and helpful.
The local bakery and butcher are very close to the campsite (approx. 250m away).
The restaurant "Zum Kirchenschmid" has a very good, reasonably priced menu.
The prices at the campsite are very moderate.
Hiking and cycling are very easy from the campsite.

On site: supermarket, petrol station, butcher, bakery and restaurant. All within a few minutes' walk.
.... and many excursion destinations "right" on the doorstep.

There are restaurants, a gas station and a supermarket in the village. The extremely courteous and friendly Hartl family, who run the site, sometimes operate a snack van at weekends with specialties from the region... (Altmühl Taler lamb, but also grilled chicken, kebab or shashlik). For children there is a large sandpit, trampoline, climbing frame, small soccer goal and swings; a small bird park with parakeets, quails, rabbits and chickens invites children to feed them. There is also a self-service herb bed on the way to the extremely clean sanitary facilities. A drinks machine provides the necessary cooling in the summer heat.
