- Zelter X.July 2013This campsite is a dream! At least for campers who long for absolute peace and quiet, need zero comfort and only pure nature and want to be far away from civilization and the hustle and bustle. The site is practically in the middle of nowhere, but still has a lot to offer! In addition to the magnificent... nature, the mountains and probably the largest (endless) and most beautiful beach in Lewis right next to the site, there is also a well-stocked grocery store with a petrol station nearby and even a restaurant of sorts a little further on. The campsite is divided into a pitch for motorhomes and caravans and a huge meadow for tents right by the bay. In the middle, accessible from both "sections" of the campsite via a medium-length walk, is a container with sanitary facilities. Although these are simple and small, they are cleaned daily and are well maintained. A 10-minute shower costs 1 pound. You cannot drive onto the campsite by car; there is a small parking lot at the beginning of the meadow. You have free choice of pitch and endless space! Caution: The wide bay with the shallow sandy beach sometimes stays dry for days, but on some days it is also quite flooded. Then it can happen that the rear, lower areas of the tent meadow are also flooded! It is better to camp on the far left of the beach, as this part of the area is also slightly higher! The bay, which dries out at low tide, is the site's biggest attraction: children can build huge sandcastles, dogs can chase across the wide expanses and walkers can relax and unwind. The beach is not really suitable for swimming: Even at high tide, the water is at most waist-deep. Another big plus point is the absolute peace and quiet. All you can hear is the bleating of oystercatchers, the bleating of sheep and the mooing of Highland cows. In the distance, you might hear a car whizzing over the cattle grid. You can watch seabirds and thousands of rabbits! At sunset, the mountain scenery in the background appears in a mystical light. Then light a campfire in front of the tent or on the beach and forget about everyday life - wonderful! Last but not least, the price: you pay 2 pounds per night for everything! You pay at the house when you drive up the driveway to the campsite and a short distance further up the B8011 road.Traduzido automaticamente.
- Claus G.May 2013Uig 2013Dream location by the sea. We have stayed here three times and it was pleasantly empty, especially in the low season (May). A good starting point for this part of Lewis.Traduzido automaticamente.
