Useful as a starting point for day trips
There were two of us at the campsite with a tent and a car. We had no problems finding a pitch. However, some of the meadows are not very flat, which is sometimes a problem when camping. We stayed on the hill, as the meadows there are further away from the road and therefore quieter. When it rains a... lot (which we had), the ground softens quickly and some places cannot be used with a tent. However, there is enough space to get out of the way. There is also plenty of parking space for cars. The road was audible but all within normal limits depending on traffic. The social areas on the campsite were permanently overcrowded as there is little space inside when it rains. The area where you wash your pots and other things was cluttered with dirty dishes and very unhygienic. The toilets are right next to the lounge area, completely misplaced, so you can hear a lot. We didn't feel comfortable there. There is a small sanitary building outside the main building where you can also shower, which was fine. The shower cubicles were dirty (also due to the bad weather) and were not cleaned often enough. The toilets were fine. We used the campsite to go on tours to Stokksnes beach or Hoffellsjökull, for example, and it is perfectly located for this. Shopping facilities (supermarket) are within easy walking distance, there is a swimming pool (outdoor pool) nearby and options for eating out. All in all, it was functional for us there, but not comfortable.

Campsite with very good infrastructure, shopping, swimming pool, gas station, etc. Sanitary facilities clean, but sometimes short. Very friendly staff.

Quiet, great swimming pool nearby

A lovely quiet site. The pitches are spacious and the upper pitches have a sea view. The toilet facilities are ok and clean. The shopping facilities and the new swimming pool are about 10 minutes away on foot. There is also a petrol station and a café right next to the site. The swimming pool is absolutely great! A good starting point for exploring Vatnajökull.

Beautifully laid out, terraced site, at the top with a view of the water, a little away from the main road, therefore quiet. Friendly staff, clean sanit. Facilities. Shopping facilities and swimming pool in the village, approx. 10 min. walk away, petrol stations available. Ideal location for excursions to Vatnajökull, glacier tours.
