" - How? No detailed report available on camping.info about this excellent site yet? And you haven't heard of Dinan either? Somehow I have the feeling that I'm on the trail of some kind of insider tip. I've already been to Brittany a few times, but I was still missing the obligatory day trips to Saint Malo and Mont-St-Michel. And the campsites right on the coast are very unashamedly cashing in... so it was more by mistake than anything else that led me to Dinan, as I was told it was an old town worth visiting. And indeed, the originally planned three-day stay quickly turned into six, because I felt so at home here. First of all, the surrounding area: day trips to Mont-St-Michel (World Heritage Site, a must-see!, 52km from here) and Saint Malo (a really beautiful little town with street musicians, very lively alleyways, bars, bistros, cafés and the opportunity to walk almost all the way around the old town on a fortified ancient city wall; 35km from here) are a matter of course. However, I can only confirm what can be read in some travel guides: Dinan is an absolutely worth seeing, ancient town with lots of half-timbered houses, a small harbor, some cafes right there and an equally lively city center, which offers photo opportunities non-stop (I attach one or two snapshots to this report). We recommend visiting Dinan by bike - you cycle through the Rance valley, which is really beautiful. In Dinan, however, you should park your bike somewhere and tie it up, as it is extremely steep up and down through the alleyways of the town, and a bike is a real hindrance. Let's move on to the campsite "La Hallerais": it is beautifully situated on several levels and very quiet, with a railroad line running somewhere in the distance, which you can hear two or three times a day with a short, quiet hiss. Life on the site is very relaxed and generally quiet; in addition to the pitches, there are also separate areas where there are only chalets, i.e. mobile homes. The site is well maintained and is looked after by nice, friendly staff who also speak English (and quite fluently at that), as you mainly meet English, Irish and residents of Guernsey and Jersey who mostly come here via Cherbourg. Local amenities are good, there is a small mini-market which, although it doesn't look particularly well-decorated even in the high season, offers enough everyday necessities, including baguettes and croissants in the morning (without pre-ordering). There is also the small restaurant "Le Cochon grillé" and a shopping center about 2.5 km away with Intermarché, Pharmacie, press (not German, but English-speaking), etc. There are many opportunities to use the bike - but you shouldn't be lazy about pedaling here either, we are in Brittany, where the terrain is sometimes up and down. The site also offers free use of tennis courts, mini golf and the swimming pool - all beautifully laid out, well-kept facilities that are a pleasure to use. The sanitary facilities are spacious and numerous (a small house on site), but have an interesting, indefinable style and I have not seen them like this anywhere else. I have also documented this in pictures. There are separate toilets and washrooms, the shower facilities house both spacious wash cubicles with freely adjustable hot and cold water and combined shower/wash cubicles with a shower and washbasin. These are spacious and offer plenty of hooks, storage space and splash protection for textiles. Like everything else, the showers are included in the total price and the temperature can be regulated. The hot water is heated to a reasonable temperature and is therefore also suitable for washing up; it is nice that there are no hot water markers. Stable Wi-Fi is also available in a large room next to the swimming pool; there are seats with tables and sockets - and here, too, use (as often as you like) is free of charge... Tickets with login details are available at reception. Remarkably, despite all the services on offer, the pitch can be described as ridiculously cheap: I paid less than 17 euros per night with a caravan plus electricity, and with a second person it would have been around 21 euros. This site deserves its four stars! I highly recommend it as an alternative if you don't *have* to be right on the coast of Brittany. Children get their money's worth here and have a lot to do (including a small playground). I am currently planning for next season and am thinking about Bordeaux, i.e. further south - if that happens, the stopover will definitely be at "La Hallerais".
