- Thomas H.July 2024Pozitivnobeautiful campsite near a river (nice sounds at night) and surrounded by a small forestNegativnoNo security measures such as barriers, video surveillance, fences despite repeated theftBeware of theftBasically a nice campsite near a beautiful river (nice sounds at night) and surrounded by a small forest. During the day the noise from the nearby helicopter launch site (every few minutes on sunny days...) is a bit annoying, but still a nice place. Nevertheless, we would never go there again. While... we were sleeping in our car (pop-up roof), someone stole three heavy bags from our car, even though our pitch was in the middle of the campsite. We assume that the thieves used a car because the bags are so heavy. We weren't the only ones to be robbed that night either, which suggests a gang. The police weren't interested at all, stating that theft is common and frequent on campsites in Chamonix and as the Mer de Glace campsite doesn't have the slightest security measure, they can't (and felt: didn't want to) do anything. In fact, there is no car barrier, not a single surveillance camera, not to mention any fences around the campsite. The owner of the campsite wasn't really interested either, didn't even come to our pitch, was just annoyed and only asked rhetorically what he was supposed to do, personally keep watch all night? He also admitted that it wasn't the first time and that there were gangs of thieves in Chamonix in high season. He didn't warn anyone and didn't even take the slightest security measure (a webcam at the main entrance or a car barrier would have provided much more security). Especially as the police said that there is so much theft in Chamonix, even at campsites, next time I would definitely go to one that has more security measures.Samodejno prevedeno.
- Ralf P.September 2019PozitivnoThe proximity to ChamonixNegativnoSee aboveQuite O.K.Quite O.K. The pitch is dark, with unkempt bushes that are far too high, the showers are only warm to a limited extent, everything is not heated. The reception is friendly and businesslike.Samodejno prevedeno.
- Hannes S.September 2016PozitivnoLocation !NegativnoSupplybeautiful place in a fantastic locationThe location is probably one of the most beautiful campsites in Europe at the foot of the Mont Blanc massif at approx. 1000m. The site is beautiful, well-kept, quiet and clean. The only thing that is poor is the catering on site. You can order bread in the morning and there are a few snacks and drinks... at the buffet. You can do everything directly from the campsite and don't need a car. Free tickets for the bus to Chamonxi are included. Hiking and cycling tours can be started directly from the campsite. The price is high by French standards, but justified by the unique location.Samodejno prevedeno.
- Torben H.July 2016PozitivnoWonderful view. Quiet location. Free use of the train. Great opportunities for activities Very nice CP managementNegativnoQuestionable shower hygiene poor kiosk equipmentFirst creamReally a campsite worth recommending. Reservations are not possible, but not necessary. If you arrive in the morning, there are plenty of free pitches available every day. It is possible to view the individual pitches in advance. The pitches are mainly separated by high hedges and fir trees. WC and sanitary... facilities are getting on in years, but are always well maintained and clean. However, there is no gender segregation. Shower rooms cannot be entered with shoes. Without exception barefoot. Not in keeping with the otherwise really friendly and courteous management of the campsite, but you can accept this and certainly work around it in terms of foot hygiene. (Disinfectant spray after showering). However, the reason why flip-flops are not even allowed remains unclear. There is a sufficient supply of electricity and water on the campsite. There is a store, but it is more of a kiosk selling snacks and drinks. Food trucks come almost daily with a changing menu. Restaurants and supermarkets for daily shopping are located outside the campsite and can also be found nearby. The route to Charmonix takes around 30 minutes on foot or a few minutes by bike along a variety of routes. The valley offers a wealth of activities. Free travel on the regional train is included during your stay. All in all, a really beautifully located and equipped campsite. Recommended without reservation.Samodejno prevedeno.
- Christoph K.May 2015PozitivnoAbsolutely beautiful locationIngeniousThe location with views of the surrounding mountains is absolutely fantastic. The plots are separated from each other by high hedges. The site is very well maintained. The sanitary facilities are also clean and well maintained. The owners are very accommodating and extremely friendly. We will definitely come back to this exceptionally beautiful site.Samodejno prevedeno.
- Vinzenz T.September 2012PozitivnoConvenient location for hiking in the mountains to the glacier, first-class sanitary facilities, excursions by car or motorcycle.NegativnoSatellite reception not possible everywhere(trees)Beautifully situated site with good sanitary facilities right in the middle of the high Alps,Camping Mer de Glace Chamonix/Haut-Savoyen/France 200, Chemin de la Bagna | Les Praz, 74400 Chamonix, France http://chamonix-camping.com/fr/bienvenue.html The campsite is beautifully situated just below the Massif du Mont-Blanc on the banks of a glacial stream. From Chamonix, take the D1506 in the direction... of Col du Forclaz and Martigny/Switzerland as far as the beginning of Les Praz (part of Chamonix). The first signposted access road leading directly to the campsite is not passable for caravans and motorhomes due to the low height (2.40 m) of a railroad underpass. In other words, continue on the D1506 until you reach a traffic circle and then take the first exit onto Route les Gaudenays and take the next right again, then follow the signs to the campsite. It is well worth the effort. The site itself is well laid out and the pitches (mostly parceled out and separated by hedges) are large enough to accommodate a caravan and car, some with awnings. Satellite TV reception is also possible on certain pitches (watch out for trees). The sanitary facilities are located in one place in several small buildings and are equipped with everything you need, including washing machines and dryers. Extremely clean and very well maintained. Recreation rooms are also available. WiFi is possible. The staff are friendly, helpful and explain everything properly. Bread, rolls and croissants can be ordered at reception. Larger purchases can be made in Chamonix; the train can be used. However, it seems a little strange that the campsite does not accept credit cards but only cash. But what the heck. From the campsite you can go on beautiful but also difficult mountain hikes. Excursions by car over the various passes: Col du Forclaz via Martigny/Switzerland and the Grosser Sankt Bernhardt into the Aosta Valley/Italy and on over the Kleiner Sankt Bernhardt to Bourg Saint Maurice/France and over the Cormet de Roselend back to Chamonix and the campsite can be completed in one day.Samodejno prevedeno.

- Gerd W.July 2011Very nice owners, very nice and quiet location, ideal place for tours in the area. Sanitary facilities o.k. by French standards. Internet on site at sleeper speed, better take a USB stick with you. Hardly any play facilities for small children, more a place for hikers/mountaineers. No store on site, bread service in the morning, a mobile pizza van comes twice a week, not bad.Samodejno prevedeno.
- Peter K.September 2010Very good hiking opportunities in the Mont Blanc area. CP is about 5 km from Chamonix.Samodejno prevedeno.
