- Klaus-Peter A.August 2023PozitivnoSpacious parking space, friendly staff, close to the city centerNegativnoWaiting times at the showers, muddy pitchNice for sightseeingWe were here on our way back from the Highlands for a tour of the city and the Tattoo. The site is easily accessible on the outskirts of the city and the reception was friendly and easy.
We stupidly opted for a grass pitch. A gravel pitch would definitely have been better as we were more or less standing... in a mud hole after a day of rain (no influence on the rating, we could have avoided this by choosing something else).
The sanitary buildings were of varying quality. One is currently being rebuilt, so something will probably change here in 2024. Until then, there are definitely not enough showers and the condition and cleanliness of the ladies' area in particular leave a lot to be desired.
From the campsite, you can be in the city in 30 minutes by bus or car. Due to the topography (very hilly) and the poor condition of some of the roads, cycling is not recommended. Parking in the parking garage in the city is very expensive (about 24 pounds for a few hours).
Tip for food: The store is ok, but doesn't offer the selection I would expect for a place of this size. The pub 'The Stables' is not recommended from our point of view, at least for food. We had by far the worst shrimps and the worst fish and chips of our trip (and expensive too).Samodejno prevedeno. - Sabine O.June 2023PozitivnoFriendly staff Clean, newly renovated sanitary facilities Good connection to the city Nice quiet placeNegativnoNoneSuper campsiteWe stayed here for 2 nights to visit Edinburgh. Nice place, clean newly renovated sanitary facilities. Price OK (only about half as much as the other campsite in Edinburgh. Highly recommended!Samodejno prevedeno.
- Gitta P.September 2019PozitivnoFriendly welcome, good bus connection to the city, great pitches.NegativnoPoor sanitary facilities, old, cramped and unkempt.Good bus connection to the cityThe campsite has large pitches and is ideally located for the bus stop to Edinburgh. But that's about it. The sanitary facilities are cramped, obviously older and unkempt. There are no storage facilities in the showers. We visited eight campsites in three weeks, none of them had such dirty sanitary facilities and none of them were so expensive. 2 nights were enough...Samodejno prevedeno.
- Dagmar J.May 2019PozitivnoStable Bar Good starting point for Edinburgh and GlasgowNegativnoCleanliness of the sanitary facilitiesNice campsiteThe arrival was well signposted and easy. We were greeted in a friendly and pleasant manner. The pitch we booked in advance turned out to be great and well located. The wash house was quite close and the water tap not far away. The showers are spacious, but there could be a few more. The Cp looks very... well-kept. The famous English lawn! The staff are very keen to keep it in optimum condition, which unfortunately cannot be transferred to the wash house! I was very disappointed. It did not look like daily cleaning! I would like to recommend the Stable Bar. The food there is excellent and the atmosphere is incredibly cozy. You can buy a limited amount of groceries for your daily needs at the reception or in the nearby farm store. A bus stop not far from the Cp, about 10 minutes walk, takes us to the old town of Edinburgh in 20 minutes. The train takes you comfortably from Edingurgh to Glasgow in 40 minutes for about 13 pounds. The bus ride from the Cp to the Ocean Terminal also proved to be worthwhile. Conclusion, a good campsite for a city tour Edinburgh & Glasgow.Samodejno prevedeno.
- Jürgen J.July 2018PozitivnoProximity to EdinburghNegativnoStocking densityGood starting point for EdinburghWe had to spend a night here on 21.07.2018 as our originally planned pitch was only available for the following day. The site is large and has too few sanitary facilities, some of which were still closed. The price is ok. Disposal options are also "sporty" here - the campervan stands at an angle and you can't get rid of anything ;o) Price 33.50 GBP for camper van and 2 adultsSamodejno prevedeno.
- Susann S.October 2017PozitivnoLocation, tranquillity, many sanitary facilitiesNegativnoRisk of scalding if you don't want to wash your hands in ice cold water in October.optimal for CityCPWe were surprised to find such a nice, quiet CP within the bypass (Edinburgh's highway bypass), surrounded by nature ! I can only agree with my predecessor's description of how to get into the city, but it would have been good to know that Edinburgh's buses only take counted money, or don't give it !!!!... Change becomes a donation, woe betide you if you only have a 20 GBP bill. The sanitary facilities were clean, but the usual separate taps in the UK (a reason to really leave the EU) were even worse in the ladies wing than we had experienced on 5 Scottish sites before. The water came shooting out of the taps at far too high a pressure, so you could hardly avoid getting splashed, the completely waterlogged floor showed that it wasn't just me who had the problem. And nowhere else was the hot water as boiling hot as it was there. Even the multilingual signs don't help, you're bound to get scalded. Why can't or won't the islanders set the flow temperature lower? Stable Bar next door is a good tip, cozy, fair prices, delicious food, free wifi.Samodejno prevedeno.
- Hans-JOachim B.July 2017PozitivnoFast at the CP and in the city, nice place. CleanNegativnoStronger inclination in the upper/rear areaOptimal CP for Edinbrugh!I don't need to say much more about the CP. If you look at the pictures you can see everything. Beautiful, clean! We were there at the end of July and got a hard pitch without a reservation and there were still enough free pitches. You can get into town in about 30 minutes on line 11 to Princess Street.... The stop is on the street from the CP, about 3 minutes on foot. At the stops it is written whether you are going to the city or from the city. From the A720 you are at the campsite in 5 minutes. Simply perfect for sightseeing in Edinburgh. I didn't notice any queues in the sanitary facilities, as described by someone else. There are four sanitary buildings on the site! If there is anything to criticize here, then the pitch is very sloping in the upper/rear area. I couldn't get the support wheel on my campervan out far enough for the vehicle to be level, so the supports didn't reach the ground either. After asking, the staff gave us documents for the supports and the camper van. So that nothing stood in the way of our very pleasant vacation on the CP. I therefore recommend a pitch in the NUmmern 260ff area. There is also the sanitary area in the festival building which I found more pleasant. A second small point of criticism was that there were too few places to hang up your things, e.g. in the morning when washing and shaving.Samodejno prevedeno.
- Jürg B.June 2017PozitivnoQuiet location, ideal for sightseeingVISIT EDINBURGHWe had already visited this site in 2011 and had fond memories of it. Drive to the campsite at the turn-off from the main road past the nursery and another 200 m to the reception. Unfortunately, this time the reservation didn't quite work out, the reserved pitch was occupied. In addition, the price confirmed... to us by e-mail did not match the actual price, a difference of £3. However, no one at reception knew about the occupied pitch or the price. But there were still free spaces, so no problem. Beautifully laid out, quiet site, sanit. Facilities in good condition, renovated, always clean during our stay. Somewhat unfortunate solution in the top sanitary building with 3 in 1, i.e. shower, toilet and washbasin in one cubicle. If you only want to use the toilet, you may have to wait a long time or move to another building. Good restaurant "Stable" on site. Ideal location for sightseeing. Bus stop to the center near the campsite, bus no. 11, approx. every 10 min., day ticket £ 4.--, one way £ 1.60. At peak times, a journey time of 45 to 60 min. is to be expected. There is a large tourist information office in the center, many opportunities for shopping on the Royale Mile, Edinburgh Castle, sightseeing tour with open-air deck bus, food, etc. If you have enough time, it is also worth visiting South Queensferry with the impressive 2.5 km long Forth Rail Bridge and the 2 km long Street Bridge, one of the longest suspension bridges over the Firth of Forth. Easy to reach with your own car and sat nav from the campsite, also signposted depending on the route.Samodejno prevedeno.
- Corinna I.September 2016PozitivnoCity bus 5 min walk from the campsiteSightseeing tourWe started our trip to Scotland with a visit to Edinburgh. The campsite is close to the highway, but still in a really quiet location. To our utter amazement, there is a downhill ski slope with a lift within sight.Samodejno prevedeno.
- Ritva B.August 2016Pozitivnogood city connection by bus beautifully situatedNegativnoSanitary facilities partly with complete cubicles (shower + WC) = going to the WC quickly does not work at peak times somewhat overpricedgreatWe actually only wanted to stay for a very short time, but after a brief tour of the city we realized that a longer stay would be worthwhile. It was no problem to spontaneously extend our stay. The site itself is well laid out, slightly hilly, with lots of trees. There is a bus stop just a few meters... from the entrance, from where you can get to the city center easily and cheaply. The sanitary facilities are constantly overcrowded in high season and not always really clean.Samodejno prevedeno.
- markus p.July 2015PozitivnoEvery 10 minutes to EdinburghPerfect connection to the cityPerfect connection to the city of Edinburgh by bus! A bus runs directly into the city every 10 minutes during the day. Scenic and quiet location.Samodejno prevedeno.
- Manfred K.June 2015PozitivnoQuiet location in the countryside with very good bus connections to Edinburgh city center.NegativnoWLAN offer expandable.Well-kept place with good bus connections to the city center of EdinburghHighly recommended for a sightseeing visit to Edinburgh. Bus stop with at least a ten-minute connection to the city center during the day and a fifteen-minute connection to the harbor suburb of Leigh (Ocean Terminal, line 11) about 600 m away. Decent sanitary facilities. Morning rolls irregularly available.... Overall small selection of food. Nearest, well-stocked supermarket (Tesco Express) approx. 2 km out of town, also accessible by bus; the nearest cash machine is also there. Weak WLAN. Cozy looking bar & restaurant (not tried) right next to the campsite.Samodejno prevedeno.
- Herbert G.June 2015PozitivnoPerfect location for EdinburghNegativnoCleanliness of the sanitary facilities left a lot to be desired.Very nice, large spaceThis campsite is perfect for a visit to the Scottish capital Edinburgh. On the southern outskirts of the city, close to the ring road, it is beautifully situated in the countryside (great for dog walks). It takes about 30 minutes by car to get to the city center, but there are bus connections in the... immediate vicinity (about 45 minutes). The staff at the reception is very friendly, the Stable-Bar is a great place to eat, breakfast is available from 9.00 in the garden center cafe. Only the cleanliness of the sanitary facilities left something to be desired, on the 2nd evening the same leaves were still on the floor and the toilet paper holders had not been refilled.Samodejno prevedeno.
- SERGIO D.August 2014convenient but expensiveTypical maxi campground on the outskirts of Edinburgh, with public transportation outside the campground to the city center. Clean and suitable for everyone. Very expensive compared to other Scottish campsites.Samodejno prevedeno.
- A. J.August 2014PozitivnoGood bus connectionsNegativnoUnfortunately approx. 30 - 60 min drive to the city center.Edinburgh Tattoo 2014Very scenic site with very good bus connections for sightseeing Edinburgh Unfortunately no WiFi facilities appropriate to this site, sanitary facilities and dishwashing centers rather poor. Reservations must be made well in advance!Samodejno prevedeno.
- Madlen B.July 2014PozitivnoLocation, catering, transport connectionsPerfect for exploring EdinburghThe campsite is great for exploring Edinburgh. You can be in Princess Street in about 20 minutes by bus. One of the nicest city campsites we have ever been to. Very green and tidy. You can buy the most important things for dinner and breakfast on site.Samodejno prevedeno.
- I+A. L.September 2013Stayed at this site for 3 nights in Sept. 2013. Very good bus connection to the center. Staff very friendly. Clean and well maintained. delicious food in the inn, or just for a beer. We would definitely recommend this place!Samodejno prevedeno.
- Sergio M.August 2013A huge campsite, very neat, do not speak Spanish, there is a restaurant and a stall where you take a breakfast in the morning, is not far from Edinburgh and is well served by bus. the shopping area, very large, no shadows and dirt road. The right attention. It is a campsite that can be recommended.Samodejno prevedeno.
- Michael R.August 2013The best and friendliest campsite in Edinburgh. Although it is noticeably more expensive than a Highland site, it offers more comfort, a kiosk, washing machines, dryers, ironing room, many different shower and toilet complexes. The very large site is just as suitable for relaxation campers (hiking trails... in the countryside) as it is for city explorers: a few minutes' walk away, a bus runs daily and around the clock to the city center without changing buses (1.50 pounds per ticket, pay the driver accordingly). The Glenkinchie whiskey distillery is only 20 minutes away by car and a visit is highly recommended.Samodejno prevedeno.
- Joachim B.May 2013A great site in the green south of Edinburgh with very friendly staff and excellent bus connections to the city center. We really liked the clean sanitary facilities, the spacious and well-kept grounds and the peace and quiet. The small store at reception is not well stocked. There is a Tesco supermarket... 2 km away. The idyllic Stable Bar fits into the general ambience of an ancient farmstead, but we didn't try it out. Highly recommended for adults looking for peace and quiet, we only noticed a playground for children.Samodejno prevedeno.
