The size of the pitches, all about 100 square meters.NegativnoInternet not always available. Stony ground, you need proper pegs. Sloping terrain. You need wheel chocks to align the caravan properly.Small but nice campsiteThis campsite is really family-run. The whole team at the campsite is super friendly and helpful. It is ideally located for people who like hiking. Several well-signposted hiking trails start in the immediate vicinity of the campsite. If you are staying longer, you can drive to the surrounding villages... and use the nearest hiking trails.
Culture is not neglected either. It is not far from the campsite to Eisenach (Wartburg), Gotha, Erfurt or the pretty town of Schmalkalden.
100 meters from the campsite, there is a beautifully designed outdoor pool with a large slide. There is also a mini golf course.
My wife and I, as well as our dog, felt very comfortable on the campsite and in the surrounding area.
We can really recommend this campsite. You are a welcome guest here.
We do not recommend this area for cycling. There are no nice cycle paths and you have to use the normal road. It is also very hilly. Mountain bikers use the hiking trails. My wife and I were not the only ones who took the bikes back unused.
The brewery in Friedrichroda is a great place to eat. Best wishes also to the camping friends from Finsterbergen. Those looking for hustle and bustle will probably not be satisfied. Rather, the site offers the opportunity to relax and explore the Thuringian Forest, whether by motorcycle, car, on foot or by bicycle.
There is a bread roll... service on site. That's all you need, as there are two butchers in the village with their own in-house production. The freshly stuffed Thuringians are excellent at both. There is also a village store in the village with everything you need and very tasty bread rolls
We had a bungalow due to the time of year. Very clean and well-kept. Just like the sanitary facilities.
The site is very lovingly laid out and you immediately notice that the camping experience of the operators flows into it. Just like the staff, they are very warm and helpful.
If you are traveling with children, you can visit a small outdoor pool with a water slide etc. in less than 5 minutes on foot in summer.
Dogs are welcome and allowed in the rental accommodation.

However, the last few meters are a path where only one car fits through in some places. That makes it exciting, of course.
When we arrived there was a very friendly welcome from the Heft family. The owners of the campsite. If... they are not there, there is a board at the entrance that tells you which pitch you are coming to.
It is very relaxed there. The operator is a passionate camper himself and would like to pass on the camping flair. Clamping is not required here 😉
However, the showers and sanitary facilities are a real luxury! It's nice and clean there and we were happy to help keep it clean.
The long pitch is also wonderfully bar. It's so quiet and idyllic. A dream. With just under 30 pitches, the site isn't that big either. But that's the beauty of it. You can get to the next town quickly by car. There is a lot of uphill and downhill cycling involved.
There is an outdoor pool and a mini golf course right next to the site.
In the reception you have the possibility to cool your own drinks. Make coffee. Or on some days you can enjoy draught beer for a really fair price. A fridge with drinks is also available 24/7 so you don't have to sit on a dry building site ☺️
There is also a bread roll service!

Quiet, small, everything very clean, friendly operators who make everything possible and an ideal starting point... for our hikes. Our dog was also welcome. My parents rented a vacation apartment for a week and were also delighted. Everything was there. The surrounding area also has a lot to offer. We traveled by car and were able to see a lot. Reception is only staffed for 1-2 hours in the morning and late afternoon. However, you can arrive throughout the day, as there is a list of names and pitch numbers on the door. The registration... lists are also available and you can fill everything in at your leisure on the pitch. We didn't notice the operator couple either positively or negatively, we hardly saw them. Some of the pitches are very sloping and not very big, in our case the car had no more space on the pitch (caravan 7.30 m + awning). The bushes and trees that were not trimmed were also a problem. Bread roll service is great, they are provided in a basket in the anteroom of the reception. There are no bread rolls on Sundays and public holidays. WLAN is only available in the reception area. The sanitary facilities are impeccable, great showers, plenty of space and always clean. There are very beautiful hiking and walking trails from the campsite, perfect for dogs too. There are also lots of excursion options in the surrounding area, we didn't manage to do everything in a week. Very cozy and very quiet, simply pure nature. There is a swimming... pool nearby and good restaurants in the village - the site itself offers a bread roll service. The reception was lovely and friendly, we felt very welcome. The sanitary facilities were very clean and adequate for the size of the pitch. It was also an ideal starting point for some tours, e.g. to the Hainich (huge beech forest area), to Rudolstadt (porcelain, castle and great leisure... pool/sauna!), Rennsteig falconry near Tabarz. The operators are pleasantly uncomplicated and very helpful (thanks for the help with the "stuck" plug connection on the electricity column). And so are the guests - their number is always manageable thanks to the small size of the site. Everything was ideal as an introduction to our big vacation trip and we were able to acclimatize well to life in a tent caravan. There really is nothing here but forest. Finsterbergen is a small village. But there are bakeries, butchers and a small supermarket. In Friedrichroda there is an Edeka and Lidl. The campsite is very well maintained, but I have to deduct... 2 stars for the sanitary facilities. These urgently need to be renovated. The outdoor laundry room may be idyllic in summer, but not so much on cold days. The ivy growing there and the wooden wall also provide shelter for a number of animals. The toilets are always clean but fall into the nostalgic category. Metal bolts as locks and signs that the toilet flush is defective. The reception is only manned in the mornings and evenings. You simply drive onto the site and choose a pitch. Registration then takes place in the evening. There is also a 2 small wash house with sauna on the site. However, this was not heated at the time. Well, my master told me not to praise the place too much...otherwise it will soon no longer be an insider tip and with the many guests, the small and fine campsite could lose a little of its individuality, identity and originality. For me and my owners it was... one of the best places that I have sniffed.it gag to drink in Valentinsteich and ..stübchen, after a few meters we were in the forest, enjoyed there the heavenly peace, which also prevailed on the square. After a short walk of 15-20min.we were in Finsterbergen for shopping or restaurant visit.Aut the campsite there were no shortcomings..everything available from A detergent to Z (bath) Zuber..All sanitary facilities in excellent condition and without additional payments to use. The site is in a wonderful and idyllic location. As soon as you leave the site, you're practically on the Rennsteig :) In contrast to many other large campsites, this is a small and fine family-run campsite. The campsite is lovingly... laid out and quite modern. The sanitary facilities are good, but could be modernized here and there. But it's always clean :) There are shopping facilities in the village, but you should do this on foot. The neighboring outdoor pool is highly recommended. Large, clear if cool water and very modern. On the campsite itself there are also vacation homes, a camping area in the forest and a rustic sauna. The approach is via narrow roads, but there is hardly any traffic. There is free WLAN, but it is only available at the hermitage. :( They should invest in repeaters so that you can use it in all areas. The site is small, informal, well-kept, very quiet with sufficiently large pitches. The sanitary facilities were cleaned twice a day. It gets its special charm from the many little things. In the modern wash and shower room, for example, there is a basket with 2-3 toothbrushes... (in their original packaging, of course), a tube of toothpaste and a shower gel. The basket is labeled: In case you have forgotten something important at home -. There is a flower pot on the windowsill in the toilet. There is deliberately no seating plan. Only the advice to behave in such a way that no other guests are disturbed. There is a coffee machine for use in the Valentinsstübchen. Internet is free of charge. There is a large self-service fridge stocked with beer, water, soft drinks etc. You take what you need and put €1.00 per drink in a piggy bank next to it. Nobody is there, it's based on trust. If you don't like large, overcrowded campsites, this is the place for you - very small, quiet and beautifully situated. Very clean facilities and very nice operators. Finsterbergen and the site are a bit remote,... but you know that when you go there. Bread rolls are available on site, otherwise you just have to go to the village or use the good restaurants in the village. Ideal surroundings for motorcycling.
