It is a very good starting point for trips to the Black Forest, the Kaiserstuhl and Freiburg, as well as cycling tours along the Rhine and to the towns in the surrounding area. Europa-Park Rust and nearby Alsace are also recommended destinations. We came from La Spezia that day, had already traveled 650 km and arrived at the... Terrassencampingplatz Herbolzheim campsite, Im Laue 1, 79336 Herbolzheim at 9.30 pm. We were on the road for a long time that day due to several traffic jams at the Gotthart tunnel & in Italy, so we had also tried to announce our delay by phone, but there was only an answering machine.
As is usual at many campsites, we had hoped to be able to stay in the parking lot of the campsite, which is even advertised as free, so that we could at least enjoy the sanitary facilities.
A motorhome was already parked in the parking lot.
The tenant/owner immediately approached us and asked if we knew what time it was. We tried to explain our delay and asked about the possibility of spending the night in the parking lot. The somewhat upset owner immediately said loudly that they wouldn't even start such a thing, it was out of the question for him. When asked about the motorhome, he said that this family was known to them. And we should please leave immediately. He didn't even want to give us the time to consult with them. Then he and his family (?) stood like a guard battalion in front of his gate and waited until we had left. These site operators should be ashamed of themselves!
He didn't care at all about turning away two women traveling alone at this time of night. My daughter and I were very surprised, a little shocked, angry and didn't understand this procedure at all. We had to look for a new place to stay because we were overtired from the journey and then found a place to stay on our own in a forest parking lot. Paying for WiFi which then does not work. Pitch is too sloping (pitch 47) to be able to put the caravan down properly (even with recovering it is still written).Recommended: hospitality courseThe campground is located nicely enough, with a beautiful swimming pool less than 100 meters away. If you start hiking behind the campground you will find yourself in a particularly beautiful area. The campground also has a nice green appearance. Unfortunately for us the disadvantages outweighed the... advantages. A very unkind owner who barks at you if you ask anything. WiFi sales that were very poor (even though he already knew the WiFi was very functional, we found out later). And a site where the caravan could not be put down properly. We really liked the site. The pitches in our area were on a slope, but we had some wooden blocks with us and were able to stand up straight. Very clean site, registration for lunch break, friendly site operator, simple restaurant with nice... service. You can't expect exclusive cuisine, but it is reasonably priced. The place is absolutely quiet and the sanitary facilities are clean. Well-kept, albeit sometimes steeply sloping pitches of sufficient size. The sanitary facilities were always clean, the toilets took some getting used to (there are no toilet seats). The restaurant on the campsite offers simple but tasty dishes at reasonable prices.... We were surprised to see dogs on the site despite the dog ban in July/August. The site is clean and the owners very friendly. In the restaurant you can eat and drink very well for a fair price. The swimming pool is great, you can get in and out as many times a day as you like for 3 euros. The Europapark is only 40 minutes away by bike. Very clean site, English lawn, extremely friendly staff and manager. Toilets without glasses - you like it or not. No mirror over the hand washing area. The place in an absolute dead zone. So if you don't want to shop for wifi and have your own network... access, you're in a bad position here. Wonderfully situated on a slope, very quiet. Large and very nice swimming pool right next to it. Very good bread service with great bakery rolls. No bakery waste, as is now common.
