" - Marina di Altidona is a small seaside resort in the Marche region, almost on the border with Molise. The next town, just half a kilometer further on, is Pedaso. As is usual in this area, the railroad line runs directly along the Adriatic coast. Next, a few hundred meters further on, is the SS16, then the A14 freeway. 700 m from the coast, behind the highway, you will find the Garden River campsite. Incidentally, the highway underpass there has no height indication and looks quite low at first glance. However, I have seen many high mobile homes at the campsite, so don't worry, it's fine. The site is beautiful, quiet, has large, shady pitches, simple and even simpler, but reasonably clean sanitary facilities. There is a very nice pool (with a swimming cap, which is still required by law in Italy), a bar and a restaurant. There is also entertainment, but it is not intrusive. The best way to get to the beach is by bike, there is a cycle path almost all the way there. There is a beach promenade here, the beach itself is narrow. There are only a few managed sections, the rest is free beach. It is striking that the beach is absolutely clean, there is no garbage lying around and the surroundings are unusually clean for central and southern Italy. Not far from the beach there are large rocks piled up as breakwaters. The water is very clean, even crystal clear when there are no waves. Many mussels, fish and even young shrimps can be seen underwater on the breakwaters. The train is hardly a nuisance, as many new trains are used and the trains run comparatively slowly. Unfortunately, there are also negative things to report: What bothered me the most was that you have to park your campervan parallel to the road! Camping has something to do with freedom, I position myself as I see fit on the respective pitch. The plot has a width of 7.5 m, my mobile home with bike rack is exactly 7.5 m long - the bumper was on one side, the end of the bike rack on the other. If both neighboring parking spaces are occupied - I can't park with this huge thing. Neither can my Italian colleagues, by the way. They arrived at the weekend and just lined up one after the other. The restaurant was quite chaotically organized. It was best to see larger groups who had already booked in advance. The Dutch neighbors didn't get anything there at the weekend - unless they had taken a pizza with them - basta. Now to the pizza. On the first evening I just wanted a quick pizza - it's ok for me that there are sometimes waiting times. But when I open the box of a 6-euro pizza in Italy and there's about 2.5 cm of space on all sides of the box, I'm disappointed to say the least. The mini market mentioned in the Campingcheque guide and on the homepage was also not available. The dog area with dog pool was only open from 18:30 to 20:00 and the dog pool was not full. Interestingly, it was also difficult to make contact with the Italians there - even if you speak the language. I went out for dinner with a Belgian woman in the village on the last evening - she speaks fluent Italian and was virtually ignored there. There are a few shops in the area - pharmacy, bakery, a wine shop, a specialist store for fresh pasta, an organic food store and a small supermarket. There is also a Dico discount store about 1 km north on the SS16, or a larger Simply supermarket in Pedaso just after the bridge and highway entrance on the left. However, you should be mobile in some way - a bicycle is enough. I was also visited by mosquitoes - they weren't swarming, but there were a few and they did bite. They were mainly tiger mosquitoes and my bites were very swollen. Cortisone ointment made the bites disappear and with enough mosquito repellent and Autan the defense is no problem. Incidentally, the campsite accepts camping cheques until 31.7. - the 7=6 promotion is not to be sneezed at. The payment formalities using the Silver Card went without a hitch.
