Camping de Schaopvolte De camping is gelegen in de mooiste omgeving van Noord-Drenthe aan de Hondsrugroute. Alleen al in de Staatsbossen van ± 2500 ha., vlakbij de camping, vindt de echte natuurliefhebber en vervente kampeerder alles wat hij wenst. Deze …bossen bieden uitgestrekte lanen, prachtige vennen en heidevelden met nog alle vogel- en diersoorten die elders door de drukte geen levenskansen meer hebben. De naam van de camping is ontleend aan een plas (de Schaopwas) op ± 100 meter afstand van de camping, waar enige generaties terug de schapen bijeen werden gedreven om daar te worden gewassen, alvorens ze te scheren. De entree van de camping is een oud spoorwegstation van het oude treinspoor Stadskanaal-Assen. Op de camping zelf staan nog een aantal oude treinstellen waarvan twee zijn omgebouwd tot een gezellige kantine, waar u terecht kunt voor een smakelijke maaltijd, een snelle snack of en lekker glas drinken.
