Stay: Jun 2019
"Old but clean! - Update 2019: General: No significant improvements or repairs to the site or even improvements to the service for years, which brings us straight to the most important pro: there are still nice pitches for campers! Cooling compartments were only available to rent from the beginning of June, which was bearable due to the prevailing temperatures, but is necessary for self-catering if you don't want to go shopping/drive every day. Still only marginal WiFi, which doesn't play a big role for us on vacation. It is not very pleasant that preparations for the season are only started when the pitch is already half full. For example, drains and taps were replaced in the middle of the day, which can be done at the beginning of April. There is an urgent need for site maintenance such as pruning trees, cutting down dead pine trees, leveling the tent pitches, .... and the makeshift mowing with string mowers makes more dirt than it helps. The cleanliness of the sanitary facilities is ok, at least when the cleaning team has just finished. The inability of guests to use the toilets in a cultivated manner cannot be blamed on the campsite, but some additional training in the form of pictorial instructions on the proper use of the sanitary facilities could be helpful. However, taps, shower heads, shower partitions, shelves and hooks should be replaced regularly, as everything quickly becomes very unsightly due to the very calcareous water. Restaurant: The prices charged in the restaurant do not correspond to the level of cuisine on offer. Some chip shops prepare dishes better. Salads ok, fish ok, but all dishes with minced meat were subterranean. In terms of meat dishes, saltimboca and steaks were ok, even if we had to ask for more sage leaves for the former or better bring them ourselves. The "ham" in the wrapped rolls made of mock meat or chicken was full of gristle, which is at best dog food. The service depended very much on the daily form of the cooks/servers, which speaks for little professionalism. From our point of view, it is incomprehensible why the potential of the restaurant is not used professionally. Store: Opening hours were extended at the beginning of June, in May only in the mornings. The offer is very limited, the baked goods were not up to the usual standard, although the store belongs to the same chain as the store in Punat. At least we were able to buy a cold beer there. The offer may change for the better in high season. The commitment of the staff left a lot to be desired, even when I pointed out incorrectly labeled goods or the non-functioning refrigeration (butter was almost liquid), this was ignored or answered with a shrug of the shoulders. Reception: In contrast to before, now friendly, quick and professional. Update 2015: The morbid charm is still there, although some showers have been given new shower heads, the road towards the restaurant has been widened and new lighting has been installed there. Only cold water was available in the showers opposite the restaurant The cleaning crew in the form of a young woman was busy around the clock keeping the sanitary facilities in order. Some of the guests obviously need extra tuition in using the toilets. The restaurant still had teething problems at the end of May/beginning of June, but the service then improved. Pizza and fish ok, salads and meat dishes took some getting used to. Refrigerators can be rented again, which might annoy some guests because of the noise level, but this place is certainly only for nature lovers who can cope with simple conditions. However, the prices are comparatively high. Particularly recommended for tents and smaller caravans, less so for larger vessels. The staff are courteous and friendly. Information policy was rather lukewarm, so we experienced a burst water pipe (between Punat and the campsite) in June 2014, which cut off the entire site from the supply and took some time to repair. The staff were on the move around the clock to get water for the toilets and distributed canisters of service water. In the direction of Stara Baska there are beautiful trails for "non-foot-sick" people, which can be walked on naked but only with good footwear. Beautiful and secluded bathing bays, but the water is still a little fresh in May and June.
