"Family-run CP with fantastic river bathing area in a great landscape - The campsite has around 140 pitches and only a few mobile homes, which are located behind a row of trees on the eastern edge. The pitches are large enough, but not always completely flat, many directly on the River Ceou. Difficult to access via the northern access road with a trailer, better to take the southern access road (signposted). Sunny, semi-shady and shady spots. The latter are highly recommended in midsummer, as daytime temperatures of over 35°C are normal, and over 40°C are common. Due to the valley location, the campsite is in the shade from around 21:00 in the evening and until around 08:00 in the morning, but this is quite pleasant (tip: the pitches at the south-eastern end of the campsite have the longest hours of sunshine). At night it cools down to 10°C even in midsummer. Almost no mosquitoes. Lots of sporting activities: huge playing field in the middle of the site (approx. 2 ha) with volleyball court, heated swimming pool (with its own baby pool), soccer pitch with metal goals, basketball hoop, table tennis tables, fitness equipment, two playgrounds, boules court, free mini-golf course, billiards, table football and one of the most beautiful river bathing spots on the Ceou. The Ceou is a crystal-clear, cool river (water temperature in summer approx. 15-17°C, wonderfully refreshing at 35° air temperature), which flows into the Dordogne at Castelnaud La Chapelle. Sanitary facilities partly new, partly a little older, but (depending on the previous user) mostly very clean; depending on the pitch, the paths to them are a little longer. There is a separate children's bathroom (for 0-4 year old guests). Shower heads permanently installed, temperature adjustable, just as many individual wash cubicles as showers. As is common in France, there is no male/female separation. A public road with very little traffic runs through the campsite, but is used almost exclusively by campsite guests and cyclists; it is part of the Ceou cycle path. The road from Castelnaud La Chapelle to St. Cybranet is clearly audible due to the valley location, albeit with little traffic. There is a separate area for youth groups. A little tolerance is required here, because if 15-20 young people enter the pool area, the pool is full. Otherwise, the French youngsters were very considerate. You should like or at least tolerate charcoal barbecues, as there is a lot of barbecuing going on. The reception, campsite supermarket, bar, info point, restaurant and WiFi reception are located in a picturesque, horseshoe-shaped historic farmhouse, which is also inhabited by the family that runs the campsite. Books (in French and English) can also be borrowed here, and there is also an information point with leaflets on excursions in the surrounding area. The restaurant offers simple dishes (burgers, pizza, salads), but of very good quality, the ice cream is very good. In the high season there is an excellent menu once a week (e.g. mussels in white wine sauce, paella). Stella Artois, Hoegarden and Leffe on tap. The CP supermarket is small and only offers the essentials, but fresh baked goods can be ordered daily (baguettes, pain, croissants etc.). Very low-key and friendly entertainment in high season (e.g. water polo and soccer tournaments, live music once a week in the evening). The host family and all the staff are very friendly and helpful. They speak English as well as French. In the surrounding area there is a small supermarket in Castelnaud La Chapelle (5 min. by bike), an organic supermarket in St. Cybranet (10 min. by bike), another organic supermarket in Sarlat (15 min. by car), a huge Leclerc supermarket, a Carrefour supermarket and a Casino supermarket. Numerous excursion possibilities in the surrounding area [Castelnaud and Beynac castles with their own museums, Les Milandes castle with bird of prey show and Josephine Baker museum, Marqueyssac gardens, the village of La Roque-Gageac built into the rock, Sarlat old town, Lascaux cave, canoe tours on the Dordogne, donkey trekking, etc.].Tip: almost car-free cycle tour on the Ceou cycle path to Daglan (approx. 10km) with English tea room "Le The Vert"]. Hiking trails lead directly from the CP into the forest. And if you want to know how the French really let it rip, you should definitely visit the village festival in St. Cybranet (always on the first weekend in July) ...
