- Robert H.August 2020AdvantagesLovely mature trees, close to town centre and restuarants, good variety of supermarkets and boulangerie in the town. Roome emplacements with water, drainage and electricity available everywhere.NegativesNoneLovely site, well worth a visitLovely site, I have been coming here for years, camping with my Dandy Camper. This time I hired one of the four static caravans to avoid using shared facilities (Covid 19). The washblock is excellent and was completely modernised in 2015. The site manager provides a limited range of snacks and meals... and I would recommend you try. The quality is good and an excellent option for the evening you arrive. If you want something more up market, a 5 minute walk into town provides a wide range of restuarants of varying type of food and price. Lovely meadieval town centre with all sorts of shops and the big supermarkets are on the edge of town.
My wife and I tour the beautiful Romanesque churches in the Brionnais area, just to the north, there is lovely rolling countryside and beautiful views and pretty stone villages. The Beaujolais is just a few kilometres to the east. The Loire river is a bout three kms away to the west and alongside is the Canal that runs through to Roanne. Ideal cycling along the towpath as is the former railway that runs north for many miles. The sky at night is dark, so see spectacular light displays when mini asteroids burn up entering the atmosphere. I have been here in the height of the season and it is never crowded. No matter which direction you leave Charlieu, there is beautiful countryside.
The biggest bonus is the price, this is not an expensive holiday but the quality is good.
