"Great place on the Werra - We spent 2 weeks on the site in summer 24 and really enjoyed it. The operator probably changed 2 years ago and has implemented his unconventional solutions for many things. The reception, for example, is a discarded bus. There are also lots of toys for the younger children to play with. There is a large sandpit and a barbecue/fire pit that can be used. There was a very pleasant, friendly and open atmosphere on the site. There is a lot to discover in the surrounding area. In the green belt you can enjoy quite untouched nature or walk in the footsteps of the former border (border museum etc.) Only the gastronomic offer is a bit thin according to the settlement. You have to plan this or go to the somewhat larger towns in the surrounding area.

"Nature campsite - Small campsite with pitches located directly on the Werra (but not all pitches, of course, you have to be lucky to get a pitch!) There is also the possibility to change pitches on site at short notice, even if it is in the summertime. We've been here 4 years in a row now and we've always loved it, especially the children. We would come again. What you should know, however, from 01.08.22 is a new tenant on the place, how it behaves further, must show?

"Relaxed days on the Werra - After booking in advance, we were given a wonderful pitch right on the Werra. There is no usual reception, but a self-check-in, payment is made in the mailbox or online. We were welcomed with a nice sign on the pitch. The sanitary facilities are basic but very clean. We didn't want for anything - but we would have liked to meet the obviously relaxed, friendly operators in person. We'd love to come back!

"Wonderful natural place - We had two fantastic weeks on this wonderful, natural site. The old Eriba stood under old ash and chestnut trees right next to the beautiful Werra. In the evenings we sat around the campfire by the river, there are practically no mosquitoes there. The couple who run the site in Amsterdam are friendly, speak great English and German and are always busy on the site and therefore approachable. The infrastructure is excellent, there are two places to eat directly in Altenburschla and supermarkets and all kinds of shops in the neighboring towns of Treffurt (Thuringia) and Wanfried (Hesse). Next door you can play mini-golf and pit-pat and sit in a very nice garden café. The atmosphere on the site is friendly and respectful, with agreements rather than rules. Which of course suits our idea of camping very well. Waste is separated, there is a shower that is in no way inferior to the one at home and five more for the "real campers". We didn't have to use them, the always clean "luxury shower" was usually free and was constantly cleaned. The site has a public jetty for canoes/kayaks. The beauty of the Werra valley itself really blew me away, I hadn't expected that. A dream come true for hikers and cyclists. I can only recommend the tips on camping-altenburschla.eu. It was wonderful. We will be back.

Profile

Camping Altenburschla is a small campsite in the beautiful Werra river valley. Because the campsite is located in a valley, you can really enjoy cycling on the many flat cycle paths or climb the mountains if you have already cycled …enough flat in the Netherlands. It is the ideal base to explore the region by foot, bike or canoe. We are surrounded by beautiful hiking and cycling routes in Hesse and Thuringia. We are a campsite for real campers, so with us you will not find the infamous German 'Dauercampers', in other words: no permanent residents with gnomes in delimited gardens :-) There are pitches right by the river with large trees for shade, but there are also plenty of pitches for sun-worshippers. The nights here are still really dark so you can stare at the stars. During the day, you can hear and see lots of different birds. Big birds like raptors and swans, but also the little blue-red kingfisher. At dusk, you may see a deer across the river coming to drink or a raccoon climbing a tree! Enjoy a walk through the picturesque (half-timbered) village of Altenburschla, which has already been voted the most beautiful village in Hesse several times. With 30 sites with electricity, a tent site without electricity, glamping tents, a gypsy caravan and a holiday home, we have something for every holidaymaker. The campsite is characterised by its friendly atmosphere, you won't find any fenced-off stamps or regulations of how you should place your motorhome or tent here. What you need to know about our campsite: - Small campsite right by (canoe) river, 4.5 hour drive from Utrecht - Superb cycling and hiking area - For real campers who want to get away from all the haste and luxury ;) - Wifi-free zone (but good mobile coverage) - Tents, hammock campers, folding trailers, caravans, camper vans and motorhomes welcome! - Reservation is recommended for Whitsun, Easter, Ascension and in June, July, August and September - 30 pitches with electricity (6A) - Tent pitch without electricity (charging station for mobiles and GPS in the reception car) - 6 showers, 8 toilets and plenty of washing-up space - Play bus and sandbox on the campsite and playground within walking distance in the village - Pets allowed on a leash - Campfires allowed in communal braziers - BBQ at your pitch is all right
