"Historically valuable, but ... - Camping under excavators had been a goal of ours for some time. We combined it with a nice bike tour and enjoyed the peace and quiet on the site. If you want to attract guests, you should invest a little after a few years of use. A shower container is not the state of the art today, even if campers, like us, sometimes make compromises. The way to the toilets was too long for a walk and was done by bike. Our pitch under the big wheel was impressive, gravel interspersed with grass made no puddles even when it rained.

"Camping fair - This time I was here with my nephew. It was very varied and the guided tour of Eisenstadt was particularly interesting. The cycle path around the adjacent lake is almost completely asphalted and therefore well suited for a short cycle tour.

"Interesting but expensive - 33 for a pitch is steep, even if electricity and supply and disposal are included. The technology is great, especially if you've never been to an open-cast mine before.

"Impressive and quiet - Ferropolis is actually a mixture of a museum where you can marvel at the technology of surface mining and an event site where concerts and the like take place. But it is also a campsite, or rather, areas that have been made available for camping. There are several areas available for this. A huge gravelled area at the Medusa dredger, a grassy area at the Big Wheel dredger and asphalt or sand near the beach. There are no sanitary facilities as you would expect on a traditional campsite, just sanitary blocks with toilets and washing and shower facilities. Here you realize that it is actually an event site. The toilets are near the Medusa and the showers are plastic inserts in a container near the beach. Dishes can be washed in an uncovered area next to the showers. The gray and black water disposal is also located opposite in a floor grid. Everything is quite basic, so really basic with zero comfort. During our stay, however, everything was clean and functional. There is also a small beer garden restaurant on the site. The camping prices of 30 euros/day refer to the pitch. The number of people and electricity are not charged separately. The decisive factor for us, however, was the location, i.e. the view and the extreme peace and quiet. We stood right next to the Big Wheel and just looked at these huge iron monsters for days on end. You can park your camper right next to or even under the Big Wheel and it radiates an incredible sense of calm. Speaking of peace and quiet: it is absolutely silent on the site. No adjacent road, no aircraft noise, no machines. Nothing. You can't hear a thing. And that's why we extended the day and were able to slow down to a standstill. And if you say that these excavators are perhaps just boys' things, far from it, it was my wife who wanted to stay!
