"A good overnight stop for caravans and large vessels on an excursion to Kruja Castle - Small gravelled overnight pitch behind the Hotel Nord Park. Contrary to the description in some travel guides, it is very suitable for large camper vans and caravans. Arrival: Coming from Durres, about 2 km before the center of Frushe, turn left after the big blue sign. You will quickly miss the entrance and then have to make a difficult U-turn before the center of Fushe! After the hotel, turn left again onto the gravel site with a small strip of grass and trees. The site offers overnight accommodation for 2-3 tents and 6-8 caravans/camper vans. Uncomplicated registration, payment in advance, the entire hotel facilities can be used. Sauna, swimming pool, good restaurant. Electricity, drinking water/waste water and chemical toilet disposal. After a stressful journey through building sites, we received a very warm welcome. After a short time we were surprised with a "greeting from the kitchen" at the campsite. Afterwards we went to the swimming pool, so we were fit again to visit the castle with its medieval bazaar alley. Tip: Kruja Castle is mainly visited by day tourists. Therefore, the main peak time is from 12:00 to 17:00. We started at 16:45 with our car towards Kruja city center (steep drive with many serpentines and even more potholes) and were at the bazaar from 17:30 with a search for a parking space. The starting point is at the Hotel Panorama. Below the hotel, almost in the center, there are also enough parking spaces at this time. (September 2018). Attention: The museum closes at 18:00h. However, if you "only" want to explore the bazaar and the grounds of the castle (with its ancient olive tree), this is the right time for you. There are three restaurants in the castle grounds serving typical Albanian cuisine. We went to ALBA, which is highly recommended. After dinner it was dark and we were able to enjoy a romantic walk back to the car. The fortified tower, museum and olive tree are effectively illuminated in the evening.
