A number of campsites in and around the city have set up camp along the Seine, overlooking the river. We'll show you what you must see in Paris and where to find campsites a little further from the city if the hustle and bustle of the capital gets too much for you.

The Most Famous Sights and Activities for Campers in Paris

Eiffel Tower

The landmark and without doubt the most famous sight in Paris is the Eiffel Tower. It is the national symbol of France and was built to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the French Revolution. It rises 324 metres into the sky, far above the houses of Paris. The Eiffel Tower can be visited, but if you want to venture up, it's best to check on the internet beforehand for the best time of day, as the queues are long. Since the opening of the Eiffel Tower on March 31st 1889, it has attracted crowds of visitors every year, who come to enjoy a romantic lunch or a casual dinner in the tower's restaurant high above Paris - or simply admire the breathtaking view.

Louvre

Art lovers and connoisseurs beware, a visit to the Louvre is a must on your bucket list when you go camping in Paris. The former palace is now home to numerous significant works of art, including the Mona Lisa. The museum is huge and it seems almost impossible to see everything in one day. The convenient visitor paths send you on a themed journey through the Louvre, helping you find your way through the many paintings and sculptures. Afterwards, you can take a break with a coffee and a delicious croissant in the museum's gardens.

Arc de Triomphe de l'Étoile

The Place de l'Etoile forms a roundabout from which twelve avenues branch off, including the famous Champs-Elysee. In the middle of the Place de l'Etoile is the Arc de Triomphe, a massive and ornate archway. Built in honour of the Grand Armée, today many visitors enjoy the panoramic view of the Champs-Élysées. The Arc de Triomphe is not as high as the Eiffel Tower, but there is hardly anywhere with such a good view of Paris' landmark.

Cathedral Notre-Dame de Paris

For a long time, Notre-Dame de Paris Cathedral was one of the most visited sights in all of France. The atmospheric Gothic architecture, the colourful stained glass windows, the small and large towers, the spire and the gargoyles together form a masterpiece. Since large parts of the cathedral were damaged and destroyed in a fire in April 2019, visits to the inside of the building are currently not possible as reconstruction is still ongoing. The re-opening is announced for 2024, but until then you can marvel at Notre-Dame Cathedral from the outside.
