For us, the campsite is a good place for a stopover in eastern Bavaria or for continuing our journey. The campsite has grass and fine gravel pitches, and some pitches also have grass pavers. Although there were still free pitches... with grass paving stones, we were allocated a pitch with grass and fine gravel. I love gravel or pebbled pitches!
The sanitary facilities were fine during our visit, but I found the shower lacked hooks. The showers are a great size, but the splash guard could be bigger.
Due to the many hiking/cycling trails, a longer stay could also be possible for us, but this is offset by the many water birds, especially the many geese at the nearby lake.

The prices are okay, except that a dog costs 3 euros/day and there are no bags available. Owner Helmut Straub is very friendly and happy to explain... things. Katja Herzog-Straub, his wife and co-owner, could do with some more work. Brochures and information leaflets about possible leisure activities are available in the store on site. Hardly! The range of products in this store is also quite limited and unfortunately it was not possible to order bread rolls due to overcrowding? and there were hardly any left at eight o'clock in the morning. The Altmühlsee pizzeria on the square made a real effort to cater for us during our visit. The service was good, they could have taken a little longer with the food, which would have been good for the quality. The area itself is beautiful and offers something for everyone. The public transportation is also exemplary. The call bus from the square is a great facility.
What was generally annoying was the implementation of the Corona regulations in the restaurants in the area. From zero mouth and nose protection to exemplary, everything was represented. Right at the beginning: If you don't like dogs, you should choose another place! Unfortunately, the manager was very unfriendly right at the beginning. He assigned us a pitch and came by about half an hour later to connect the electricity. We had inadvertently... placed the power cable next to the wrong power box and had to listen to a snotty statement.
There is a small store on the pitch where you can get your bread rolls in the morning. Unfortunately, no one told us that we should order them in advance (you can do this for a whole week, etc.), so we were faced with empty shelves more than once. Long-term campers and guests who have been there more often knew of course. Unfortunately, the lady in the store wasn't particularly friendly either.
The sanitary facilities are very nice and modern. There are plenty of showers, toilets and washbasins, but not enough sinks. The cleaning staff were very friendly and always tried to keep everything clean.
The pizzeria on the pitch is excellent. The staff there were also very nice.
What bothered me most were the comments from other camping guests when they saw our (very quiet) dog. He was always on a lead! I missed a piece of meadow or similar on the site so that the four-legged friends could do their business or maybe even romp around with other dogs. There was also no poop bag dispenser. As you pay an additional €3 per day for the dog, I would have expected more.

Ok, the stay wasn't long, but we liked everything. Friendliness,... cleanliness, pitch, sanitary facilities as you would imagine and wish. We can also recommend the restaurant. We also noticed that our permanently installed satellite system had no reception on the pitch assigned to us. So we went ahead and politely asked... again. We've never had any problems on the pitch. Turn your WW. Did I mention that it was raining? I went back to the WW and drove off the pitch. No chance. So I went back to the boss as a little supplicant. And what do we do now? That was the answer to my problem. In the meantime, the boss was also present and assigned us a new pitch. That's different! Departure: The electricity is only read on the hour. The site makes a very good and modern impression overall. Most of the pitches are very large with thick hedges between the rows. There is electricity and water, but no real waste water connection, rather just a drain. The wash house is very modern, and was basically clean,... but there is mold on the joints, here should be better cleaned. The playground is quite small but very nice. What we noticed negatively: - for the electricity reading before departure an appointment must be made in advance - Saturday morning shortly before 9 o'clock there were already only table rolls and sweet pieces - Saturday evening at 9 pm we were already standing in front of a closed barrier. 2 pensioners, one inside and one outside. This left us with only the side exit, which remains open at night for "emergencies". (From the inside you have to know how to get there first) The Altmühlsee is only about 300m (estimated) away. There are various bathing possibilities, sand "beaches", dog beach, surfing stand, pedal boats, cultural program and much more. The Brommbachsee is also only a few kilometers away. The Gasthaus Lehner zum Storchennest is also recommended as an excursion destination.
