With a view of Chinon Castle
We spent a total of 10 days here at this beautiful campsite. The reception was friendly and very quick. Shopping is just a few minutes' walk away in Chinon. You can also go on wonderful tours from here. We had our Vespa with us and were able to visit several castles and sights. The sanitary facilities... are clean and functional. Only the washing-up troughs in the small wash house have extreme pressure. The water cannot be regulated. We found the staff to be very courteous and friendly. The campsite was also half empty on Ascension Day and Whitsun. So no density stress and no cuddle camping.

Beautiful Chinon, beautifully situated place
The sanitary facilities in the block closest to us are borderline. There were only two showers, but these were together with a washbasin and toilet and there was no hot water in the evening or in the morning - with the exception of a short jet! You had to queue for this and after a long time a man with a book came out of the dry shower cubicle!!! Everything else was fine, but I don't have to have that again.

Visavis of the castle
Large square on the Vienne opposite the old town and castle of Chinon. However, only a few pitches have a view. Ideal starting point for sightseeing the town and castles in the surrounding area. Some of the sanitary facilities are new with spacious cubicles, but some are getting on in years - cleaning... the older toilets seems to be limited to spraying them down with a hose. In addition, the number of toilets and washing-up facilities is too small - even when the site is not full - and waiting times have to be accepted. Surprisingly, you can hardly hear the traffic on Quaistrasse on the opposite bank of the river. However, a haulage company nearby starts up its trucks at around 5 a.m. (but it is quiet again afterwards).

At the end of June there were few visitors, so we were able to choose a nice pitch on the Vienne with a view of Chinon's castle complex, the site is well maintained, as are the sanitary facilities. Shopping facilities nearby... The old town can be reached in a very short time (approx. 10 minutes on foot).

Beautifully situated site with short distances to the attractive town of Chinon. Sanitary facilities in small houses spread across the site, some of which are very dated and basic. Opposite the reception is a larger sanitary building with reasonable facilities. Sufficiently large pitches. Bakery approx. 150 m away, public swimming pool opposite the narrow entrance to the site. Swimming in the river is prohibited, but canoes can be hired.

We chose this site because we are fans of French municipal campgrounds; and with a tour of the Loire Valley planned, we wanted to partake in that view! This is a very popular site which is apparently on the HOT list for Germans, Dutch, and UK campers alike. Accordingly, we found it a bit crowded with... no strict boundaries between sites. It was also a bit loud. Most of the sites do not have that view. Sanitary facilities are clean and adequate in all respects. Groceries and fresh bread are close by. You can walk across the bridge for an evening in Chinon. The location is outstanding for wine tasting or chateaux visits. The site is CHEAP too. Three nights for four adults and one child including electricity, an extra tent, and the wifi charge in high season (July) was just shy of 70 Euros. We found Chinon and the immediate surrounding area to be a bit of a disappointment and in need of some renovation.
