"Surprising and delightful camping! - Fort Spion; a surprising and delightful campsite! Stayed at this campground for several days on a cycling vacation. Entrance over a drawbridge, with sheep, left around the corner and then tadaaa..... peace and space for a couple of tents overlooking the Loosdrechtse Plassen and shielded by lots of greenery (oa brambles). We were allowed to pick our own spot and the campground owner was very helpful in offering to move a picnic table. Had explanation about the plumbing. Showers can be taken at the fort itself. Lovely hot showers and a super inventive solution to keep your stuff dry by a laundry basket on pulley construction. Ideal! Toilet fine and clean, until a larger group from the accommodation also had to use the same toilet. Tip: make extra toilet in the accommodation. We experienced the campsite as an oasis of peace, space and nature. Beautiful starry sky seen and the sunrise were breathtaking from the campsite. The atmosphere we would describe as friendly and sporty (many cyclists). It was about a 10 minute bike ride to a supermarket, but when we had our stuff, we were able to get it directly into the fridge in the fort. Ideal. In the immediate area, hiking opportunities are somewhat limited. At the same time, there is an abundance of water sports opportunities. For example, we rented a sloop and had a wonderful afternoon on the water. Cycling back along the 80 road, not our favorite. But when you get to the campground, you're right back in the peace and quiet. The campground owner has a lot of knowledge and tips about the area. Also lends a board game with enthusiasm. He came across as friendly, helpful and attentive. For example by occasionally checking up on the campers.

"Great spot for peace and quiet. - Facilities are basic but clean and adequate - toilet, shower, fridge. There is some indoor space in case it rains. The man who runs the site is a friendly helpful chap. We only stayed one night as we were on our way back to Hook of Holland but would have liked to stay longer.
