- Hans M.June 2024PozitivnoNature and hiking opportunitiesNegativnoVery loud, sanitary facilities dirtyLoud, expensive, dirtyIf you can, you should avoid spending the night at the campsite. When we arrived around 19:00, the sanitary facilities were already at the limit of their capacity, and according to the notice, they are only cleaned in the morning. Rest periods (23:00-07:00) are considered, but in our experience nobody... is interested in them. The people who run the store on the bus (at the moment) also like to party until the morning. If you really want to see Landmannalaugar, you should not plan an overnight stay at the campsite. Save your money.Аутоматски преведено.
- Michael P.July 2017PozitivnoLandmannalaugar, Landmannalaugar, Landmannalaugar, Landmannalaugar, that's why you go there!!!NegativnoAvailable, but negligible because of Landmannalaugar :-)Where else should you camp in Landmannalaugar? The two of us hiked Laugavegur and Landmannalaugar was our final destination. If you want to explore the highlands around Landmannalaugar, the campsite is the best place to stay. The starting point is great. Put on your shoes and start walking. Bláhnúkur, Brennisteinsalda, Frostastaðavatn, Laugahraun,... Torfajökull, all within easy reach. We had our small tent with us. Setting up the tent was difficult. The site has a very hard surface with lots of (loose) stones (you should clear them away as best you can). If it is dry, it is better to use large stones to tension the lines of the tent, as the tent pegs are difficult to drive into the ground or do not hold properly. If it rains a lot, some parts of the area (especially the few meadows) are under water. The site is far too crowded in summer (during the ideal travel season). It is usually very noisy, often late into the night. The sanitary facilities are just about acceptable in terms of cleanliness, but when the buses arrive with the day tourists, it gets crowded and there are long queues. There is a small kiosk in an old school bus where you can buy some food. Very expensive, but you have to get there first. I thought it was good for that. You pay the equivalent of 9 euros for a can of beer. You just have to enjoy more :-) There are a few benches sheltered from the wind where you can cook and eat, but we had a hard time finding a spot. There are of course facilities for washing up, but there were only 2 washbasins. Sometimes you just have to wait. The hot springs directly at the campsite are very pleasant for relaxing after hiking. Sometimes it could be hotter, but still an experience. Despite all the points that were not so positive about seeing the nature there, it was absolutely worth it. Landmannalaugar is so unique, you have to have been there. That's the reason why I still recommend the campsite.Аутоматски преведено.
- Jörn L.July 2017PozitivnoLocation close to the hiking area and natural poolNegativnoOvercrowded by Icelandic standards in the high seasonGreat location right by the natural poolThe site is only accessible via two fords, one behind the other. During our visits, these required a ford depth of approx. 40 cm. Not recommended for normal cars, but they can park in front of the ford - approx. 10 min. walk to the camp. The site: Large separate meadows for tents and gravelled areas... for vehicles and campers. Spacious sanitary facilities, quite clean, but quite crowded in high season; unlit at night. There are opportunities to barbecue and sit/dine sheltered from the wind and partly under cover. The dammed but otherwise natural bathing pond is warm and sometimes well frequented into the night. Note 2017: In June the pool was unfortunately cool, around 25 degrees. The tributaries are hot, but there is probably still too much ice-cold meltwater flowing into the pool.Аутоматски преведено.
- Guido F.September 2014PozitivnoGreat location for hiking. Natural HotPotNegativnoOnly for 4x4 vehiclesCamping in the highlandsIt is recommended to visit this place only with a 4x4 vehicle. Approx. 200m before the hut, you have to pass 2 fords. The site for motorhomes is gravelled and level. The toilet facilities are good and clean. As the site is very busy, there can sometimes be a traffic jam in front of the toilet. From here... you can make great hikes into the neighboring Liparit Mountains and relax in the natural hot tub in the evening. As the site is unlit at night, you have a good chance of seeing the Aurora Borealis from the end of August onwards if the weather is fine. In September, many people also come to the sheep drive. This is a special spectacle!Аутоматски преведено.
- Andrea T.August 2012Situated in a beautiful location, this campsite offer an excellent base camp for the trekking path. The pitches are not on grass but on soil and could be difficult insert the pickets. There is a big structure for the services including toilets and showers. Near the camping there is a beautiful hot spring to have a bath (try it!). In the camp there is a little market. Very nice camping!Аутоматски преведено.
