It's a bit difficult to justify this with higher energy costs, because electricity and water are charged separately and at adjusted prices. The latest upgrade in the washrooms is a disinfectant to clean... the toilet seats themselves. Otherwise, these are of the lowest standard. With the size of the campsite, far too few toilet cubicles, toilet paper from these huge metal rolls (similar to the toilet paper format: 0.5 layer sandpaper), showers with too low non-adjustable too hard showers (old wash house), cleaning and thus blocking of the wash houses always in the morning when the whole campsite wants to shower. Another big minus is the driving behavior of employees and other drivers. Play street = walking speed is signposted long before the entrance. There isn't really a lunch break either. You can't get in as a newcomer ("welcome, but not between 1 and 3 pm), but you can get out. So there is car traffic even at lunchtime and cutting hedges and lawns is also best done at lunchtime. One plus point is the small store, the baked rolls are super tasty but also super expensive. If you continue to have little luck with the pitch, you live next to permanent campers who tear down a shed and build a new one at the weekend when you are there. Wifi doesn't work constantly if you are directly under a router/amplifier. Cell phone network poor, so not suitable for home office or a vacation with non-ecologically educated teenagers.
The surroundings are awesome. Bathing lake (who had the idea with the 50 swans, they poop all over the place, the kids don't mind), huge playground, Elbe/North Sea, mudflats, 35-minute bike ride to Cuxhaven, play barn in bad weather, canoe rental, etc.?

Unfortunately, the kiosk was closed almost the entire time of our stay due to lack of staff and there was no bread service during this time organized by the operator ... I thought it was a pity, because we either had to eat bread rolls from the day before or drive about... 4 kilometers to the nearest bakery in the morning ... but you can live with it.
Who needs it but had bad luck with the WLAN ... that simply did not work ... technical problems and could not be solved within the 2 weeks during our stay. Didn't matter to us as we didn't really need it. However, for those who value it ... very annoying.
But I don't want to talk the place down ... it's great ... the staff very friendly, the place and especially the sanitary facilities are very clean. The location, just behind the dyke with a freshwater lake, is great!

It's wonderful to explore the area on foot or by bike and you can also get to the water quickly.

It is beautiful and relaxing here.Käännetty automaattisesti. - Stephanie P.July 2020Positiivisetthe plots, there are different areas, the cleanliness, privacy despite the size of the site,NegatiivisetWithout a car or bike you are a bit lost or tied to the streetcar to get to the village, sometimes a lot of weeds in the canalsThis place will always be my favorite!I have known this site for over 40 years, when it consisted of just a lake and a small private campsite with permanent campers, tent pitches, a few seasonal pitches and bungalows for rent. Behind it was a sheep meadow. I watched it grow until it had taken on the huge area with the surrounding vacation... home developments.
Nevertheless, I still love the place today. With hedges separating almost every pitch from the next, you have your own little kingdom, so the size of the site is hardly noticeable. There are pitches of different sizes to choose from. Booking via e-mail is uncomplicated.
Communication on site is always friendly (except with party-going teenagers).
There are plenty of opportunities for water sports: rowing, paddling, SUP, pedal boating, water skiing or simply swimming in the freshwater lake. If you like it rougher, take a walk over the dyke to the sea. The mudflats don't go dangerously far out at low tide - the dubious pleasure of sinking in up to your knees no longer exists after some sand fillings in the past. Various sports activities are also possible there at high tide.
The wash houses were always spotless during all our stays.
There are several leisure activities in the immediate vicinity of the campsite: Mini golf, large playground, corn maze, indoor playground (for which the campsite children were given a wristband during their last stay). In front of the play barn, the funicular runs every hour to the village, where some stores are closed after Corona, but you can still discover many things, including good ice cream.
The new Hadelner Canal lock nearby may also be worth a visit.
Two small drawbacks: The shopping facilities on the square are rather meagre and expensive and in early summer the frogs use the weeds in the canal to communicate loudly - at half past three in the morning!
The barrier at the entrance to the square is closed at lunchtime. Restaurant unfortunately understaffed at the moment, but this is probably due to Corona.Nice clean campsite Great location with beautiful lake facilitiesIt is a very beautifully situated site, firstly because of its location on the North Sea, especially the Elbe estuary, and secondly because of the beautiful bathing lakes right next to the site for boating and other water sports. The vacation homes are in a great location, almost all right on the water.... Leisure area criss-crossed by canals. Pitches are varied, from open and park-like with lawns, to parceled and sufficiently large approx. 80 to 90 square meters with water and electricity connection directly on the site. However, there is little grass and somewhat uneven and gravel. Shopping possibility with daily fresh rolls in front of the place, but could be bigger and cheaper for this place size. Unfortunately, in the evening there is no possibility to have a drink in a beer garden, but could also have been due to Corona restrictions, shopping by bike in Otterndorf is very easy, there are also good restaurants there.
But the place is very sympathetic and spacious, especially for families with children, walks very well possible in beautiful inland and on the dike with a beautiful beach.

It was our first time there and we had reserved a pitch as recommended. When we arrived at our pitch, we noticed that it was quite small (approx. 7x10 meters). The ground was also wet due to waterlogging. Somehow we managed to fit everything in (caravan,... awning, car). The sanitary facilities in Sanitary House I have the charm of a barracks complex, but are clean. The showers have a spray head and the height is not necessarily suitable for tall people. The bread rolls are not the world's best. The restaurant at the leisure center is highly recommended. Snack/fish "stalls" just around the corner. Otterndorf itself can be reached quickly by bike and we liked it... very much. In 2013 (June) we felt just as comfortable ... In 2018 we had great weather at the end of September and cycled the nearer and further surroundings. The cycle routes in the "inland" are interesting - but often lead over country roads where people drive "fast" and are therefore not suitable for families with children!
